WASHINGTON The head of U.S. Strategic Command warned Capitol Hill lawmakers Thursday that it would be dangerous to cut President Barack Obamas defense funding request.
This budget supports my mission requirements, but there is no margin to absorb new risk, Adm. Cecil Haney told the Senate Armed Services Committee. Any cuts to this budget including those imposed by sequestration will hamper our abilities to sustain and modernize our military forces.
Sequestration refers to the automatic across-the-board spending cuts adopted by Congress in the 2011 Budget Control Act. Military commanders and civilian defense leaders have sounded the alarm repeatedly over those cuts.
Obamas budget would go above the sequestration levels to provide additional funding to the military.

The new StratCom HQ is just a few miles from our home. It is a very short distance from where my mom worked on The Enola Gay at the Martin Bomber plant.
