Bold Nebraska sues for beer revenues from Willie Nelson-Neil Young concert

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joe Duggan

LINCOLN — A leading opponent of the Keystone XL pipeline has taken bold action to recoup profits from beer sales at last fall’s benefit concert headlined by Willie Nelson and Neil Young.

Bold Nebraska this week sued the husband and wife owners of a small-town restaurant that contracted with the organization to operate the beer garden at the September show.

The lawsuit, filed in Antelope County District Court, seeks damages of at least $25,000, based on sales of an estimated 12,000 cans of beer.

“We believe that money belongs to the organization to help keep fighting the pipeline,” said Jane Kleeb, the group’s director.

I'd say it depends on what the contract says... but $25,000 for 12,000 cans of beer seems a bit 1monster Mar 2015 #1

excessive unless they were charging $5 to $10 a can...

Someone had to pay for the beer to be sold.

I don't much like to drink at concerts, so I'm not up on pricing.

Kleeb said she reached an oral contract with the couple in the weeks before the benefit show north of Neligh. Under the agreement, they were supposed to track sales of $5 beer tickets and pay the organization 25 percent of total sales, she said.

Afterward, the couple failed to produce an accounting, the lawsuit alleged. Instead, the couple reported a net profit of $15,775 and gave the organization a check for just under $4,000.
