'I Abhor Discrimination': Gov. Pence Pins Need for Indiana Religious Freedom Law on Obamacare
Source: NBC News
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence swung back again Monday at critics of the state's controversial "religious freedom" law, writing in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that Obamacare had made it imperative to ensure that "religious liberty is fully protected under Indiana law."
Noting that the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act which President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1993 didn't apply to states, Pence argued in an article being published Tuesday that Indiana was only doing what 19 other states have done. And he stressed that Indiana's identically named law has nothing to do with limiting the rights of same-sex couples.
"I abhor discrimination. I believe in the Golden Rule that you should 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you,'" Pence wrote. "If I saw a restaurant owner refuse to serve a gay couple, I wouldn't eat there anymore."
Pence said his support for the law was driven by the 2010 Affordable Care Act, which he said "renewed concerns about government infringement on deeply held religious beliefs."

Yes, he actually blamed the RFRA on Obamacare. You have to hand it to idiots like Pence; their creative stupidity is truly impressive.

The only part I like is that he's so clearly scrambling.
Trying to attach it to BENGHAZI will be next.
What a bottom-feeding piece of scum this guy is.

(2,749 posts)K, whether or not they meant for this to be the consequences, they are now. This law will be used by businesses to discriminate and to be shielded from lawsuits for discriminating on the basis of religion. I don't know why this governor can not get that through his thick skull.

(5,751 posts)just saying, no matter what Putz says, the reality is they just want to force their religious beliefs on the rest of us. That is un-American and should be unconstitutional as well!

(9,678 posts)Everybody in Indiana knows exactly why this law was served up and signed by you. It was to put gays "in their place" because last year's ban on same sex marriage failed. End of story. Pence you are a lying sack of shit. Why don't you just admit the truth and get it over with.

He can't own up to his own decision.
He doesn't abhor discrimination, he just encouraged it with the signing of this law.
He's just another free market fool who'll never be president and the decision to sign this bill will become his legacy so we have to plaster and tarnish him with it.

(1,539 posts)that you don't get to force your religious beliefs on others. If you don't like gays, then don't be gay. If you are against abortions or birth control, don't have one or use them. But you don't get to force others to follow your beliefs. And an employer doesn't get to take away your rights as a US citizen, just because they underpay you.
We know discrimination when we see it. Job performance has nothing to do with sexual orientation or whether someone had a medical procedure, that is none of the employer's freakin' business. An employer doesn't get to tell me whether I or someone in my family can have a blood transfusion or not. They are not qualified to practice medicine.
The US Constitution and Bill of Rights if followed, prevent religious fundamentalists from forcing their beliefs on others.
And don't we all know that these scumbag Republicans have much more important issue to attend to, such as failing infrastructure and regulating business that are destroying a life sustaining environment. Isn't this a hypocrisy. They are pro-life but are destroying the planet. Crazy global warming deniers. And for what, so they can get chump change for their next re-election campaign.

(1,245 posts)So ... lemme clue you in: HOBBY LOBBY.
That's what he's getting at here when he talks about the ACA and 'concerns about ... beliefs'.
To US (i.e. sane folk), of course, it's a total non-sequitur.
To the people that can 'hear' in the particular frequency upon which he speaks ... the Hobby Lobby tune is the one they're hearing.
Pence apparently thinks he can convince the (idiots of the) world that the 'need' for this legislation ACTUALLY stems from the need to make sure Hobby Lobby, et al, won't need to pay for insurance plans that provide birth control for their employees.
Never mind that, you know, there's already an exemption carved out for them to do so ... and that happened, what, a couple YEARS ago, now?
However he probably thinks he count on his 'base' (i.e. Faux Watchers) to not even KNOW that this already happened, so ...
As I say, it's an utterly ludicrous ploy, but it's really his only chance at this point ... confuse the issue and hope enough morons support him ... just because he's speaking their language.
Heck 'details' are for the elite librul intelleckjools anyway.

(363 posts)The sponsors who spend big bucks to make their products liked by you on the final four really wouldn't like to hear from you saying that you will never by their products again if they don't cancel their final four commercials! We will need a lot ofe-mails letters phone calls are best. Sponsors want to be loved not hated! They don't want their commercials turned against them. Let cbs know as well the local channel affiliate and the local sponsors of the game. A good local ask the cbs local affiliate a list of local advertisers of the game so you can call them up and ask them to cancel their commercials.
