Jeb Bush says Rand Paul 'wrong' on ending surveillance laws

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is "wrong" on his efforts to end post-Sept. 11 surveillance laws used against suspected spies and terrorists.
Bush, a likely GOP presidential candidate in 2016, called for the reauthorization of the Patriot Act enacted under the presidency of his brother George W. Bush.
"What I admire most about my brother was he kept us safe," Jeb Bush said at a Tennessee Republican Party fundraiser. "And I believe people will respect him for a long time because of that."
Without action by midnight Sunday, a number of tools that permit law enforcement to pursue and investigate suspected terrorists will expire. Paul, a senator from Kentucky, has said he will use his right to delay a final vote and let the powers lapse once midnight arrives.

That must have been an incomplete - jebbie forgot the last two words in that slogan: "He kept us safe - My Ass."

(2,518 posts)The Bush family profits greatly from selling the tools for national security. So of course he's going to say that ending "post-Sept. 11 surveillance laws used against suspected spies and terrorists" is wrong. And he'll use it to swipe at one of his opponents.

(32,723 posts)I pictured a SNL sketch of a Bush Family get together where it turns out they have another brother hidden in the attic that they describe as "weird and insane". They go on about him for some time like he's a total freak and how it will bring shame upon the family if anyone ever finds out about him. You then hear he's loose. Everyone is in a panic to find him before anyone sees him. The brother is then seen coming down the stairs,...played by Tommy Chong,....who then rips them all apart for all the crimes they've done and the lies before the servants shoot him with a tranquilizer dart and take him back up to his room in the attic.

If this is Jebbie's idea of "safe", I don't want him any-f*cking-where NEAR the White House or any other place of power!

(22,748 posts)who ignore 9/11 and try to pretend it didn't happen under GW. They try to pretend that GW's (Cheney's?) negligence caused this. He was warned and totally ignored it, on purpose? Funny, his attorney general was flying in private planes because of the threat of commercial airlines being bombed by Islamists, and said they had credible evidence of this threat to plane travel. Yet, GW had a rule passed within a month of taking office that no Saudi Arabian would be screened for terrorism or kept out of the US, even if they were on a terrorist watch list. He als0 completely ignored a report that stated that BinLaden was looking to have a big terrorist incident here. Funny how Cheney told Afghanistan they'd see their country covered in gold if they signed the deal with oil companies to build a huge pipeline or if they didn't it would be carpeted in blood.
Sorry Jeb, your lies don't fly. We know this is being done to control us, to spy on us, not to stop any terrorist threat. It's just another gift to the MIC, including Carlyle that's partially owned by your dad, and another illegal way to hurt anyone not part of the 1%.

I know they put about two million American citizens in jail, primarily for nonviolent drug offenses.
