DALLAS (AP) Dallas police say five family members have been arrested after a teenage girl said she was raped and impregnated by a relative three years ago and beaten to induce an abortion.
Four relatives have been arrested on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity and police said at a news conference Wednesday a fifth has been arrested on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Police say the girl was 14 in August 2012, and was beaten in early 2013. She's 16 now.

The restrictions have forced us for now tostop offering medication abortion while we determine our next steps.

As of October 1st, 2011, state law now requires all women seeking an abortion to have at least 2 visits to the abortion facility.
In the summer of 2011, the Texas Legislature passed a bill that requires women to have an ultrasound at least 24 hours before she has an abortion. Planned Parenthood always puts womens health first and we fought against this law because there is no medical reason for requiring women to come 24 hours in advance. Ultrasounds have been a standard part of abortion services and are always performed on every patient before any type of procedure is done.

In addition to the 2011 law requiring an ultrasound at least 24 hours prior to an abortion, the state passed a law titled "Women's Right To Know Act" that requires physicians to give women seeking abortions state-mandated information about medical risks, adoption alternatives, and developmental stages of the fetus. This information must be provided 24 hours in advance of the abortion procedure during the first visit when the woman receives her required ultrasound.

Yes. In Texas and Louisiana, state law requires that the parent or legal guardian provide written permission for unmarried teens (under the age of 18) to have an abortion. There are a few exceptions: (clip)

(111,329 posts)more than abortion restriction. Any clinic counselor would have seen her alone and the family was clearly afraid she'd talk. Yet, they didn't want the baby to be born so they assaulted her to within an inch of her life.
She is very lucky to have survived such treatment.

(5,169 posts)In such a case, should her parents or guardians have the right to force her to have a legal abortion to avoid the embarrassment and possible legal repercussions?
I say no. HER body, HER choice, even if that choice is carrying a child conceived in incestous rape to term against everyone else's desire. Obviously it is all conjecture at this point. I really hope the poor young lady finds peace, healing, and comfort.

(2,841 posts)I read the first paragraph on this and had to stop because it was so sick that it nearly made me hurl. The horror this girl must have been through to not only be raped by a relative, but to actually be beaten to the point of a stillborn birth. jfc
