Doctors in Texas perform world's first skull-scalp transplant

Cancer patient Jim Boysen had first skull-scalp transplant from a human donor, as opposed to an artificial implant or a simple bone graft, to fix a large head wound

Surgeons in Texas have performed the world’s first skull and scalp transplant on a cancer patient who had a large head wound.

The doctors simultaneously performed kidney and pancreas transplants in a surgery lasting 15 hours and involving a team of more than 50 medical staff.

The patient, James Boysen, suffers from a rare form of cancer, and radiation therapy had destroyed part of his skull.
