Bentley Cuts Off Planned Parenthood Funding
Source: AP via local news WKRG.com
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is cutting off state Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood in the face of undercover videos that implied the group was selling fetal tissue to research groups.
In a statement Thursday, Bentley calls Planned Parenthoods practices deplorable. He says he doesnt want Alabama to be associated with the group.
A letter from Bentley says the state is terminating an agreement with Planned Parenthood Southeast to serve as a Medicaid provider.
State money to Planned Parenthood has gone to birth control for low-income women, but the exact amount wasnt immediately clear.
The Alabama Medicaid Agency says Planned Parenthood has provided women on Medicaid with contraceptives such as IUDs and birth control shots.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced a similar decision this week.

(50,557 posts)It takes all the pleasure out of baby-making and turns it into an agonizing duty, but it in no way causes the woman to become infertile.

(4,113 posts)If so, then these clowns like Bentley and Jindal have basically given a death sentence to their political careers, showing that they will take stories they know were fabricated and use the lies to accomplish their political agendas. The way these governors are making such decisions leads me to believe there must be an element of truth to the PP videos.
What is it?

Articles that don't tell you that the claim against PPH was bullshit to begin with!

They will vote Republican no matter what, for the rest of our natural lives.
It's impossible to overstate how politically safe it is to attack women's health providers in those backwaters.

(16,949 posts)Planned Parenthood FACILITATES paperwork that allows the parent(s) of the aborted fetus to CONTRIBUTE fetal tissue for research.
Planned Parenthood doesn't buy or sell fetal tissue. PP does charge a small fee for collecting and preserving the tissue, if the abortion happens to be one of the procedures that is 3% of all service PP provides annually, nationally.
The research is legal. The tissue is not sold, it is contributed.
*Idiots like McConnell, Hatch, Upton, Bush (43), McCain, and Lamar Smith have all voted in support of fetal tissue research in the past. Mitt Romney is associated with Stericycle, a company that disposes of fetal tissue as 'medical waste'. But, as usual, the idiots don't realize that their voting record is available and people can see how they voted.

(4,113 posts)Hypocrites! Of all the candidates, Jeb should understand the mission and services of PP, but he'd rather pander to his mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging voting base.
This is why the Republican party is doomed to failure in the long term. The only reason it hasn't happened by now is because of shady elections in key states and gerrymandering. Eventually that cannot be sustained and they're screwed unless they change.

(16,949 posts)and it just gets harder and harder for the truth to be heard. 2 states have already debunked the stupid lie video, but do you hear that on the evening news? I haven't. I haven't heard that on the news at all.

"Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is cutting off state Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood in the face of undercover videos that implied the group was selling fetal tissue to research groups."
And what is this bullshit? The 'undercover' videos were lies and should have never been given traction by the M$M.
And this:
State money to Planned Parenthood has gone to birth control for low-income women, but the exact amount wasnt immediately clear.
The Alabama Medicaid Agency says Planned Parenthood has provided women on Medicaid with contraceptives such as IUDs and birth control shots.
Holy fucking shit. Really? So the fuck what? Why is this part of the story if not to stock the fires of wingnuts.
It's a shitty attempt to link birth control with abortion, both of which are legal and none of anybody's fucking business but a woman and her doctor.
We fucking live in a dystopian future of our own making.

(24,412 posts)Daniels tried this here in Indiana (I believe) a few years back and the Federal Courts shot it down because Medicaid rules are supposed to allow women flexibility in how/where they obtain their medical care through Medicaid. I could be wrong about this but I hope somebody files a lawsuit. The thing that pisses me off the most about this is that these videos have been debunked and PP has not been actually charged with/convicted of any criminal wrongdoing (unless I've missed something).

All those pulling funding over those videos should be denied any medical treatment that relied on fetal tissue used in the research.
