Amanda Curtis announces for Butte state House seat

BUTTE In between classes, high school math teacher Amanda Curtis ducked into the coffee shop below the historic Metals Bank in uptown Butte on Wednesday to snack on a cinnamon roll and nonchalantly announce shes running again for the state Legislature.
Curtis, 36, was thrust into the national spotlight last year when she replaced John Walsh on the Democratic ticket in the waning weeks of Montanas U.S. Senate race against Bozeman Republican Steve Daines.
Daines won by nearly 18 percentage points, taking the seat held briefly by Walsh and for decades by Democrat Max Baucus. But no one blames Curtis. To the contrary, shes often praised by Democrats for volunteering for a whirlwind statewide campaign assembling a team on the fly in a red state in a non-presidential election (turnout was 55 percent) against a formidable opponent who had previously won statewide office.
There was a job that needed to be done. I was a person who was qualified and then in the end showed that I could do it, Curtis said. We did a good job. We turned out as many folks as we could in a bad situation. I learned a ton. I definitely know more than I did going into that. It was an incredible experience.

(15,369 posts)The very sad thing is that if her late-starting campaign had received even a fraction of the attention and funds from the national organizations (DNC & DSCC) that were poured into other Dem Senate races - that were ultimately lost - she might really have had a chance. She is the MT "Elizabeth Warren" and charismatic, to boot.
A Dem Senator is a Dem Senator - no matter whether that Senator is from a populous state or a sparsely-populated one.

(522 posts)There was so much support for Amanda Curtis and she was ignores by the State Dems and the National Dems. I'm happy to know she is back for a State office.
... is what Hillary should have been.
