LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Rescuers will try again Saturday to remove more than 100 feet of fishing line from an entangled humpback whale that's been moving south along the Southern California coast.

A team with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was able to cut away up to 100 feet of rope and buoys Friday but the 35-foot-long whale became agitated and dove deep, eluding rescuers for the rest of the day.

It was spotted again Saturday off the San Diego County coast, said Justin Viezbicke, a NOAA program specialist who was part of Friday's effort.

The whale is the same creature that was seen struggling with ropes several days ago off Santa Barbara, he said.

I'd wonder what area of the sea this creature travels and what countries nets are whale wrapping.

2. Hoping these good people will be able to free this innocent humpback whale.

Also hope that there will be a way to keep seagulls from ripping the bejesus out of the whale's back if it has to stay at the surface for any extended time. I've heard lately they have been getting really aggressive with taking bites out of whales when they come up and linger there.

If these people can't get it done, I pray they will track this being so others can come forward. It would be so wrong to let these lines destroy this being.

We know it's important to them, that they understand people are trying to help, based upon videos we've seen of previous victims who were released by good humans.

Thanks for posting this news, O.S.

3. Why do these professional fisherman keep losing nets and bouys?

Don't the realize they are missing? I know bouys aren't cheap I've lost a few on the Hudson River. This makes me so angry.
