(CNN)Bernie Sanders' top strategists and advisers told CNN last month that their candidate had finally agreed to give a major speech explaining his democratic socialist views and that he would do so before the second Democratic debate on November 14.
That plan has now changed.
Tad Devine, Sanders' top strategist, told CNN on Wednesday that the speech will now come after the debate in Des Moines, citing the senator's busy schedule.

But while Sanders has started writing the speech, aides have said it has been difficult to get him to agree to give it.
Devine maintained Wednesday that the senator is "not the least bit apprehensive" to give the speech.
"He's looking forward to it, but these speeches take some time," he added.
In the lead-up to his campaign, Sanders was routinely asked about his "socialist" views. He would usually rebut the questions with a quick disclaimer: He is a "democratic socialist," not a socialist.
...................
At the first Democratic debate, CNN asked Sanders if he considered himself a "capitalist."

I am interested to see if he will take on the ownership of the means of production, which is a core principal of Democratic socialism; generally that it requires a socialist economy in which the means of production are socially and collectively owned or controlled alongside a politically democratic system of government.

Railroads were rebuilt and engines standardized. After the war, the government gave them back to their owners.
Ownership of the means of production is handled differently by different countries. I am interested in seeing his approach or if he will even touch it.

Democratic socialism rejects the social democratic view of reform through state intervention within capitalism, seeing capitalism as inherently incompatible with the democratic values of freedom, equality, and solidarity. Democratic socialists believe that the economic contradictions inherent to capitalism can only be solved by transitioning from capitalism to socialism, by superseding private property with some form of social ownership.

I.O.W., Bernie Sanders is a Socialist. Period. Full stop. And that's okay. His choice. But the United States is not, has never been, and will never be a socialist society.
The United States of America, Denmark, Holland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, France, Norway, and others, are SOCIAL DEMOCRACIES, not Democratic Socialist countries.

(13,452 posts)Harsh capitalism for the non-rich. The harsher the better we are told.
"He's not conservative enough!" That is: he's not conserving socialism for the rich and only for the rich.
The richest of rich in our media teach us, pound us, drill us in what to conserve.
We are drilled to the degree that no one knows the difference between socialism and communism in America. You don't, do you? Why should Europeans know more than we do? We are the richest nation on earth. We are not just embarrassed not-yet-millionaires. We're just trying to keep us from being embarrassed of ourselves.
Let's start living up to our greatest ideals for all, and not just the need for greed of a few.
