Maine lawmaker sparks row by calling Lewiston candidate ‘anti-Christian’
Source: Portland Press Herald
LEWISTON A Maine state representative called a candidate for mayor of Lewiston an anti-Christian bigot in a Facebook post, adding more fuel to an already contentious campaign.
Republican Rep. Larry Lockman of Amherst posted on Tuesday that Ben Chin hates Christians, a claim Chin says is totally false.
Chin faces Lewiston Mayor Bob Macdonald in a runoff election next month.
The Maine Public Broadcasting Network reported that Chin said he often serves as a lay Episcopal preacher and reads sermons at Trinity Church in Lewiston. He describes Lockmans criticism as craven.

Of course that same cohort had 'difficulty' with LGBT. But they claim it is because Sanders is agnostic, not because he's Jewish. I do not buy it.
Several of the most intense anti Bernie posters here have been asked why they are so ardently attacking him and they play coy. 'Oh, I'll never tell' then they talk about 'the church people' a bit and just let it hang there.
It's disgusting.

(45,319 posts)I understand those who engage in it don't want it called out, but you have to understand that LGBT people have been attacked in that same manner by smug religious bullies for years. We are no longer playing patsy cake with it.

It's entirely possible to call out religious bullying (and thank you for doing so) without injecting primary issues into the conversation.
If you meant to make a snide comment accusing me of engaging in religious bullying, you are barking up the wrong tree.

They're a pack of racists. Claim Chin is "anti-Christian" is dog whistle for "Chin is not white and not a Christian".

(15,330 posts)sane reasonable and thoughtful Democrats are apparently not "progressively pure" enough and we've been told repeatedly that "there is really no difference between the parties" that we enable asshats like this to continue to get elected to state offices.
We are truly just one election away from finding out just how different the parties really are, and I'm not sure we can survive that painful lesson.
That's why I hope that the action occurring on campuses and around the country with our youth actually translates in getting out and voting.
