White House says Trump comments disqualify him from presidency
Source: AFP
Washington (AFP) - The White House on Tuesday challenged Republicans to denounce their party's presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, saying his proposal for a ban on admitting Muslims to the United States disqualified him from being commander-in-chief.
Painting Trump as a "carnival barker" with "fake hair" whose campaign has a "dustbin of history" quality, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said "what Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president."

(85 posts)I thought you just had to be a natural born citizen over 35 years of age. Since when does someone's view on a political issue "disqualify" him from the Presidency?
when one's view on a political issue (and in this case many issues), is insane and deranged that might tend to disqualify one no?
sgood
(85 posts)And no, there is no rule that says that insane and deranged people can't run for President. Several sehave actually served.

(21,088 posts)Just to be a grammatical pedant.
I'd say the subjects under accusation are The Donald, and the rest of the GOP. And perhaps even the world at large, since in a sane world The Donald would have been dumped down the oubliette ten minutes after he declared. Do you disagree?
sgood
(85 posts)It is correct to use "whom" as the object of a verb ("accusing" .
If you are going to criticize someone's grammar, you should at least know what you are talking about, which you clearly and obviously do not.
I'll just ignore the rest of your post.

(85 posts)So "Who would that have been?" is correct. "Whom would that have been?" is wrong. The copula (to be) takes a predicate nominative, not an accusative object.
Capiche?
Probably not.

(35,701 posts)in that sense. Not to mention that if a President actually tried to ban Muslims from the country it could be grounds for impeachment, not that it would happen, as impeachment is a political process.

(23,970 posts)the same way Obama talking about the need for stronger federal gun control increases firearms sales.
if Obama suggested that Republicans NOT eat poop, we'd see an immediate up-tick in E. Coli infections nationwide.
Obama et al saying Trump is a shallow racist fear-mongering would-be-totalitarian demagogue is like throwing gasoline on a fire.
It comes across looking as though they're letting Trump get under their skin.

(528 posts)There's something severely wrong with people when this kind of asshole is even allowed a platform. I don't know how any reporter worth 50 cents can publish Trumps blather without being embarrassed and shamed. Anyone with any self worth would quit their job rather than cover this and pretend it is news. Trump is the perfect Jerry Springer contestant.

(148 posts)I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment.
However, this is only going to bolster Trump's numbers among those on the fringe who think anything said by the current WH administration is BS. This will make him MORE of an outsider, therefore even more attractive.
We all know the routine: anything said, promoted, discouraged by the current WH should be countered in all ways possible by God Fearing Americans, because, you know, he's not a citizen - he's a Marxist - etc.
Just watch.
