Oregon standoff: Militants used federal computers, saw employee data, report says
By Mike Rogoway
on January 09, 2016 at 12:10 PM

In taking control of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters, militants occupying the site have also taken over the desks of the people who work at the site – their cubicles, their computers and, evidently, their personnel files.

Oregon Public Broadcasting visited the compound Friday and reported that militants appeared to be using federal computers inside the compound, machines that can be accessed only with employees' ID badges. Lists of names and Social Security numbers were visible, alongside government ID cards.

The occupiers want the bird sanctuary handed over to local control so "people can reclaim their resources" in the words of Ammon Bundy, the Arizona man leading the siege. But Ryan Bundy, Ammon's brother, said they don't want to hurt the people who work at the site and he denied using the headquarters' computers or employee belongings.

. . .

Seventeen people work at the refuge headquarters, administering the 190,000-acre site. Their responsibilities include overseeing the refuge's firefighting administration, removing invasive carp from Malheur Lake and working with volunteers to build paths and make other improvements to the site.

With other beer gut miklitias joining them, there is no way they can leave quietly, they'll have to keep grandstanding for the newcomers.

I have to wonder why there aren't roadblocks preventing more worthless right wing yahoos from coming in.

This has been grotesquely bungled, as much as the original Bundy stand off was.

The Feds are going to have to get tough at some point or it will just keep happening. Unfortunately, the self immolation at Waco made them reluctant to take on crazy white people.

I swear, it would not surprise me if the FBI served them up some hot chocolate & cookies,
on a silver platter.

I can't stop thinking about this heavily redacted (and all-but universally ignored by the media)
2006 FBI report "White Supremacists Infiltrating Law Enforcement", that no one ever talks about,
even though AA's are routinely murdered in the streets by cops. Duh. Connect the dots.

I can't help suspecting that this conspicuously deferential treatment by Federal law enforcement
is part & parcel of this phenomenon.

The feds screwed this pooch from the very beginning, all because they wanted to avoid a confrontation...because it looks bad in the morning papers! But now the lives of 17 federal employees and their families are in danger.

Because of this cowardly approach and the unwitting assistance of the media, these occupiers are gaining even more support!

All of non-confrontational BS will do nothing but give more strength to the militia movement...now they have another example of how the federal government can't protect federal managed lands and it's inability to enforce federal laws!

1) how did they get in?

If the place was locked after hours, it was a break-in, a felony
If the place was occupied during regular business, it was an armed invasion of govt. property, another felony
If the place was unlocked and unoccupied, somebody needs to hire a lawyer

2) Why haven't they been forced out?
Actively
Passively: Loudspeakers, explosions, crying wives and children pleading, other razzle-dazzle, plus the usual cutoff of utilities, food and visitors

3) Why haven't there been civil lawsuits filed against their assets? Sure sounds like a case where "asset forfeiture" could be justified.

Somehow, I didn't expect such helplessness from our tax dollars at work. It's spineless, brainless, and positively embarrassing.

"No, we haven't touched a single personal item. We haven't touched any of the computers, we haven't tried to log on — we haven't done anything," Ryan Bundy told OPB.

Homeland will give them enough rope to hang them. Giving these psychos time to commit larger crimes so each can be charged with more and more punishable acts. Cutting down trees for firewood, illegal use of Fed computers, data mining, destruction (muddy boots can destroy floors and rugs, as does tobacco spit. I doubt anyone is mopping or taking trash to the dump). As soon as someone shoots a bird or deer, that's poaching. The first one to say no to the lawmen, goes to jail. You can bet the FBI has that airstrip staged for a reason. Let the bums get complacent, and ZAP! Each freak has to be identified, measured, who is an instigator and who are the followers. The FBI has all winter to compile charges. Battle does nothing, but seizing bank accounts, homes, interrogating family members at home is the only way to de-fang these paranoid cripples.
It is probably too late to pack up and leave without arrests.
