In a totally out-of-character move, Branstad stepped into the caucus spotlight Tuesday, urging Iowans to vote against GOP front-runner Ted Cruz.
Branstad said a Cruz win in Iowa would be bad for the states agriculture industry because the Texas senator supports phasing out a federal mandate that requires a certain amount of ethanol to be blended into the nations gas supply.
We should not be supporting somebody who is opposing those things that are of critical importance to the economic well-being of our state, Branstad told reporters at a renewable fuels conference in Altoona, Iowa.

(3,051 posts)The ethanol subsidy is stupid. It's neither economically needed, nor environmentally friendly.
This is actually a good example of showing how corrupt the Republicans are, in general.
Big Corn subsidies are not remotely conservative and just a give away to Monsanto and other giant corporations.
