Bernie Sanders has edged out Hillary Clinton by 8 points in Iowa in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, per a new CNN/ORC poll released Thursday.
Sanders has eaten away at Clinton's lead among Democrats throughout the cycle, and has led her in recent New Hampshire polls.
In the last such CNN/ORC poll in Iowa, Sanders trailed Clinton by 18 points. In the latest poll, Sanders led Clinton there 51% to 43%. However, Iowa Democrats said Clinton stood the best chance of winning a general election, 60% to Sanders' 38%.
Clinton and Sanders have sharpened their attacks against one another as the race has tightened in recent days. During a CNN interview on Thursday, she fired back at Sanders' claims that she was the favored candidate of establishment groups of the Democratic Party.
