Sanders' campaign stands by book blurb knocking Obama
Spokesman says it's 'absolutely true'
UPDATED 3:17 AM EST Jan 31, 2016
(CNN) Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign on Saturday stood by a book endorsement the Vermont senator wrote that suggested President Barack Obama had let progressives down, claiming that what the senator wrote is "absolutely true."
Sanders penned the book endorsement for "Buyer's Remorse: How Obama let Progressives Down" by Bill Press. "Bill Press makes the case ... Read this book," Sanders writes in a blurb featured atop the book's front cover.
"Bill Press makes the case why, long after taking the oath of office, the next president of the United States must keep rallying the people who elected him or her on behalf of progressive causes. That is the only way real change will happen," read Sanders' full quote.
Press' book, which is out a day after the Iowa caucuses on February 2, is about "the many ways President Obama has failed to live up to either his promises or his progressive potential," according to promotional materials..................

(102 posts)Hasn't Sanders disliked Obama from the beginning?

(70,344 posts)being critical of Obama policies. So, not surprised. I knew Bill Press had a book coming out soon --that would be highly critical of Pres. Obama, but did not know when, nor that Sanders would write a blurb of recommendation for it.

(6,960 posts)I'm going to read it after it comes out.
And ... from the title, I'd say I agree with the premise.
This is why Hillary Clinton is not the future, she is the past, she is the status quo, she represents most of what is wrong with the Democratic Party, and she is emblematic of the corporate takeover of the Democratic Party.
Progressivism hasn't moved far enough under Pres. Obama.
One can be glad that he has been President for the past seven years and still want a more dynamic and bolder approach to governing.
Yelling at us that "we can't" do this or "we can't" do that is exactly what we are so, so very tired of from so-called 'liberal' politicians. Sen. Sanders or Gov. O'Malley are choices to move us in a new and better direction, one that is more progressive and optimistic.

(99,772 posts)She finally came out against Obama's TPP she helped move through the process. Funny she won't ask her friends that endorsed her to work against it. What does that tell you?
Obama didn't work to pass EFCA either!

(10,130 posts)He'd tell you himself he isn't above criticism.
And I think he'd agree with some of Bernie's criticism because he already criticized himself similarly.

(4,753 posts)Obama had an opportunity to marshal his popular support into a progressive movement but he failed to act and chose a diminished path of compromise instead. This is reason #5 why I'm supporting Bernie Sanders.

(1,421 posts)I agree. I have been disappointed. This is outside the obstructionist behavior of the Republicans, Obama didn't deserve that that and bears no blame. But, he is strongly behind the TPP. He allowed single payer healthcare to be removed from discussion during the healthcare negotiations. He did cede, at least early on, before discussions even began. I think he wanted to prove his willingness to cooperate, but no favor was returned. Most progressives rightly admire our president, recognize and take pride in what he has been able to accomplish under very difficult conditions, but many share in the disappointments. One does not preclude the other.
