China Warns West Against Using Force in Syria

Source: New York Times

HONG KONG — The Chinese Communist Party’s official newspaper warned on Monday against Western military intervention in Syria, in a strongly worded reminder that China, like Russia, is wary of forceful international action even as the civil conflict in Syria grows much bloodier.

“The Syrian question should be resolved by the Syrian people,” said a commentary in People’s Daily. “Outside powers do not have the right to stick their hands in.”

The commentary in People’s Daily, one of the longest and clearest expositions of China’s stance in recent weeks, called for more patience in the hope that the peace plan proposed by Kofi Annan, the envoy to Syria for the United Nations and the Arab League, would have success.

“International society, instead of losing confidence and patience, should support Annan’s peace plan and not propagate ‘Annan’s plan is dead’ around the world out of ulterior motives,” the official commentary said.

dictators we don't support (Qaddafi, Assad, Hussein, Mao, Ho, Chavez) are our thorns.

can't you see that? killing is good so long as it's people we don't like being killed.

As Carlin said: It's all bullshit, and it's bad for you.

support (and do not now support) the actions of dictators whom our government supports. I see no reason to start supporting dictators' repression now, just because the dictator in question happens to not be one of 'our guys'.

Successful dictators (often those who are able to pass their power on to their sons - like in North Korea and Syria) know the "rules" of effective one-man rule. They rule through domestic repression but usually need a large, powerful patron to protect them from international pressure. Many dictators (too numerous to mention) have had the US as a patron, North Korea now has China to protect it diplomatically and Syria has Russia to protect it. It's a tried-and-true formula and Assad obviously knows it as well as any dictator.

Assad and his ilk are being outflanked on many fronts by technology. The reason they are in this mess now is because needing and wanting to modernize. China and Russia need these type of countries as buffer zones to keep their borders clear from influence from the west (or at least it was thought in the day). Technology is now changing and challenging that idea too. Many an inventive and a wonder filled mind moved to North America to be free from repression of their ideas. An old way that seems kind of novel and new is stay where you are and just import the most workable things. Funny thing though, authoritative governments were not one the things on things on the import list. The world has turned upside down now and the ideology of the repressive are getting their just due.

The people can handle it themselves and outsiders cannot interfere? The Chinese should be ashamed of themselves. Nobody helped in Rwanda and look what happened. Let the Chinese come up with a peace plan then. Or else it will end when everybodys dead.

Putin has threatened the West for the last month. BEFORE he got re-elected to not interfere. No one
will believe we are in security harms way. Most are blinded by everything. We have no foreign policy.
Putin is NOT are friend. China has never been. Russia is our problem-We are in big trouble.
