First on CNN: Team Romney explores blocking Trump at RNC

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by one_voice (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: CNN

But implicit in Romney's request to his team to explore the possibility of a convention fight is his willingness to step in and carry the party's banner into the fall general election as the Republican nominee. Another name these sources mentioned was House Speaker Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate in 2012.

You don't have to read too far between the lines of the speech Romney gave Thursday at the University of Utah to see the imprint of this plan. He urged voters to support the candidate most likely to prevent Trump from racking up delegates in their states -- saying he'd back Florida Sen. Marco Rubio if he were voting in the Sunshine State, Gov. John Kasich if he were voting in Ohio, or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the states where he polls as Trump's strongest foe.

He's BAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

Never a doubt that ego would resurface.

He says he's trying to block Trump, but he's really in it for himself!

Either that, or Trump would run as an Independent and really screw things up for R$'s ego.

Edit: Oh my, I just saw this...(it's just starting to get ugly):
"He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, 'Mitt, drop to your knees' -- he would have dropped to his knees," he (Trump) said.

rather lose this one and bank on retaining control of at least the House than have Trump in charge.

...because he is willing to sink so low and lower and lowest?

Seems like the answer is yes. There's a time lag in response or then they are all in the gutter. Or no response. Nice low life tactic.

they are becoming more and more self-destructive.

if they are worried about Trump being negative for down baliot Republicans, this is not the way to improve that.

The Gop leadership made trump sign a loyalty pledge and now they are turning on him. They are begging for him to leave the party and siphon off votes from them in a third party run.

How much dumber can they get?!

If a third party candidate captures enough electoral votes to
deprive anyone of reaching 270 needed to win, the Electoral College
will get dumped into the House of Representatives

So they do have an end game here

He knows a jilted Trump will run as an independent. The goal of rMoney will be to take enough states in the GE, along with Trump, to keep the Dem under 270 EV's.
No one gets 270 and the election goes to the House of Reps where it's one state, one vote for the top 3 GE candidates. Rethuglican gerrymandering will then do its dirty work and select rMoney. Remember who is speaker now. His running mate from 2012.

RMoney is trying to become the next John Quincy Adams.

I'd be shocked if they actually picked Rmoney. More than likely, they'll give it to gym-rat Eddie Munster Ryan. Rmoney will have taken the national stage only to be humiliated once again.
