The KS House implosion, legislator quits, another removed, and chaos, another tuesday
Source: Daily Kos
"I'm resigning from the House of Representatives effective midnight tonight," Rubin said. "I have no other comment."
With that statement, House Member John Rubin left the house, announcing he would pack up his office and get out of the state house never to return. The Topeka Capital Journal covered the exit, not just of John Rubin, but the re-assignment of committees and the complete upheaval of the state house today. The house had faced a serious crisis of confidence today, as conservative Republicans took over the bully pulpit, re-arranged committees and changed the way the house does business.

(191 posts)I lived there until I was 38 and got out in the year 2000. I have made my way to Oregon now and love it. I pity my Kansas friends. I will never return except to visit my parents' and sister's graves because that place has gone batshit crazy.

(12,977 posts)L. Frank Baum didn't choose it by accident. In his days as a traveling salesman, it was the state he most wanted to avoid. And even though The Wizard of Oz ends with her back home, the sequels return her to Oz permanently.

Heck, even if their politics weren't so awful, I have the most amazing clear skies here, especially at night.

I've never been to Kansas, never felt the need. I do know nice people who are from Kansas, the operative word being "from," and they all say they're glad they left.

(34,107 posts)but there are new people starting to work into the Democratic Party (which has been nothing but a joke for quite a long while *except for a few who are sadly stuck with the leadership that is lacking) and things at least in the party are looking a little better but still years out. Remember, Kansas Dems went for Bernie at almost 68%. We are few but we are progressive and we are not stopping until we right this ship.

(5,166 posts)Kathleen Sibelius, whom President Obama appointed to a Cabinet post.
You have to wonder how she got there (I realize she had married into a well-known Republican family), and how long she would have lasted without that appointment to the Cabinet.
