Another Member of Berta Caceres’ Group Assassinated in Honduras

Source: Telesur

Nelson Garcia, another member of Indigenous rights group as murdered activist Berta Caceres, has been assassinated in Honduras, local media reported Tuesday.

Less than two weeks after Caceres was gunned down in her home by unknown assailants, Garcia was killed after being shot four times in the face in the Rio Chiquito community.

Both were outspoken members of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous organizations of Honduras (COPINH).

.....

Garcia, the father of five children, was the leader of the community sitting in Rio Chiquito.

Human rights groups in Honduras have demanded the protection of COPINH members since the assassination of Caceres March 3, triggering an outrage across the world.

Much of the backstory on these atrocities here, and of the role of the former U. S. Secretary of State in it.

Rest in peace, Nelson Garcia.

They believe this will silence everyone else, when their heroes are horrifically assassinated.

Who benefits? Corporations, and their puppet politicians, and the dirty businessmen and women who are happy to sell their countries down the river for the chance to be big fish among the poor ones.

Some day this is going to end, and the meek WILL inherit the earth.

(It appears the dirtbags are trying to make sure they bleed it dry FIRST.)

May this fine man's family find peace one day, and the others who loved him, may he rest in peace.

Our Government deports refugees to Honduras and they are now in the morgues in Honduras. Soon as 'deported' arrive the gangs descend on them.

It's shallow to focus only on Mrs. Clinton, our ENTIRE Government deports refugees to their death.

Berta Caceres colleague murdered in Honduras

The Ecologist

16th March 2016

Less than two weeks after the murder of Honduran eco defender Berta Caceres, another indigenous leader has been shot dead during the violent police and military eviction of 150 families from the settled community of Rio Chiquito. International funders of the controversial Agua Zarca hydro project are now backing out..

Nelson Garcia, a leading member of COPINH, the same indigenous rights group as murdered activist Berta Caceres, was assassinated in Honduras yesterday.

The murder took place during a violent eviction of 150 families from community-occupied land at Rio Chiquito in the town of Rio Lindo, Cortés Department, attended by 100 policemen, 20 military police, 10 soldiers and and several DGIC (Direccion General de Investigactiones Criminales) officers.

"We regret to inform that Comrade Nelson Garcia was killed when he arrived at his mother's house for lunch, after having spent the morning helping to move the belongings of families evicted from the community of Rio Chiquito", reports COPINH, the Council of Indigenous Peoples of Honduras.

Garcia was shot four times in the head by unknown gunmen. But given the close proximity of so many security forces it is hard to see how the murder could have been committed other than with official support, complicity, collusion or participation.

Another member of Berta Cáceres' Indigenous rights group was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants on Tuesday, following a violent eviction of Indigenous people from their land.

Nelson Garcia, a father of five and community leader, was shot four times in the face—"gunned down in his home," the Nation reported. His assassination occurred less than two weeks after Cáceres', and only days following her funeral.

Local reports say that his death occurred shortly after the Honduran government's dispatching of riot police and bulldozers to evict 150 Indigenous people from their homes in Rio Chiquito, where they had occupied ancestral land for two years in protest of the Agua Zarca megadam project.
