Turkey army ridicules talk of 'anti-Erdogan coup'

Source: AFP

Ankara (AFP) - Turkey's military on Thursday angrily denied suggestions it could be planning a coup against the increasingly controversial President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Certain media outlets have carried reports speculating over the possibility of a military coup in Turkey, with Erdogan out of the country for almost a week on a visit to the United States.

The Turkish military has stepped in on three occasions to oust elected governments -- in 1960, 1971 and 1980 -- and in 1997 also forced out Erdogan's late mentor Necmettin Erbakan from the premiership.

"Discipline, unconditional obedience and a unified chain of command are the basis of the Turkish armed forces," the military said in a rare political statement on its website.

MowCow it appears you and I are the only two on this site interested in Turkey. I have a sinking feeling, based on evidence that Turkey could erupt in civil war. A Da'esh connection is possible.

On RT this morning the focus was the Russian view that Turkey was buying ISIS oil, allowing artifact and people smuggling. The Kurds accuse Turkey of actually arming Da'esh. The US is evacuating families from one US base on Turkish soil. The US has armed Nuclear Missiles under Turkish control. The Turkish President is/was in Washington, DC for a discussion of nuclear matters.

President Obama is signalling we have no good options to contain the situation, based on his diplomatic snub of President Erdogan.
