Romney Plan Includes Drilling ‘Virtually Every Part’ Of U.S., No Protections For National Parks

Source: ThinkProgress

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is no stranger to attacks on the environment, as seen in his ads against clean energy jobs, his pledge to roll back fuel economy standards that protect public health and reduce carbon pollution, and the fact that he doesn’t know “the purpose of” public lands that belong to all Americans.

But this morning’s Washington Post sheds more light on Romney’s energy plan, including the fact that he would open up “virtually every part of U.S. lands and waters” to drilling regardless of whether they are national parks, national monuments, or protected in some other way. As the Post reports:

Asked whether any place would be off limits for oil drilling, campaign spokesman Andrea Saul said, “Governor Romney will permit drilling wherever it can be done safely, taking into account local concerns.”

Current law sets some public lands and waters off limits to drilling, including national parks, national monuments, and wilderness areas. These places are protected for other uses like hunting, fishing, sightseeing, and recreation.

in 2011, much less than I pay as a very small biz owner with one employee---me. So private companies use our public lands and waters for virtually nothing and then pay less % in tax than a school teacher, policeman or sole proprietor hoping to get the next contract to stay in business.

And if they think they can take over protected US lands, over my dead body.

Turn all public lands over to the corporations to extract and exploit what's left of our natural heritage. The corporations get something for nothing and we pay the bill. Again.

great plan.

After Rmoney has trashed places like Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore, he and other elite 1%ers can always jet down to the Caribbean or south of France to vacation ... who cares if the U.S. public lands are trashed. But most Americans can't afford to jet away. RepubliCONs don't give a hoot about regular Americans, nor the environment.

Is really just a social order - a lifestyle of feces smearing for the rich. We are garbage people and our home the earth is nothing more than a source to be devoured for profit. Puts a new spin on the Zombie Apocolypse meme.

They will ultimately vote for Democrats. Rule of thumb is, while you're wheeling through the supermarket, you buy the first thing that will catch your eye. Difference between Democrats and Republicans? Consumerism. You can only be that one voter on Democratic Underground. The other voters in America will have their say as well.

WHO APPOINTED MITT AS THE CHRISTIAN SENT TO BESMIRCH THE EARTH?

IT'S A TRAVESTY. IT'S DESPICABLE.

FUNDAMENTALISTS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT PROTECTING LIFE? WHAT ABOUT GOD'S ANIMALS,
FORESTS, RIVERS, FLOWERS, TREES???

WHAT ABOUT WHAT POLLUTION IS DOING TO OUR CHILDREN? AUTISM, ASTHMA, ADD, CANCER,
TUMORS.

IT IS IMMORAL, UNCHRISTIAN, ARROGANT, AND A COMPLETE DISRESPECT FOR GOD'S EARTH,
OUR FOREFATHERS WHO DIED AND PROTECTED THESE PARTS OF OUR COUNTRY, AND EVEN FOR
REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS WHO PROTECTED THEM SUCH AS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, DWIGHT
EISENHOWER, RICHARD NIXON.

MITT HAS NO MORALS OTHER THAN MONEY. OBSCENE.

He is counting on the ignorance of the masses. The "drill, baby, drill' mentality plays into the myth that oil coming out of American soil or with-in our continental sea boundries belongs to the American people. People need to be made to understand that the product belongs to the OIL COMPANIES, and they will damn well sell it to the highest bidder, which will be China and India. Beside, Obama is allowing drilling pretty much everywhere now. More leases have been opened up under his administration than under Bush's. Now, that may be due to plans drawn up under Dubya...I have no idea, but the facts are there for anyone to look at. Republicans have let their party be captured by a bunch of howler monkeys that know how to make noise, but little else. At least our most precious areas and national parks are safe under Obama.

--and this money CAN produce polls that claim his numbers to be close to 50% before the election, so that the machines can easily be hacked over to a Republican rule. We are in denial of this--but we have got to get ahold of the upcoming election and get rid of the VOTING MACHINES!
