Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe to restore voting rights of more than 200,000 convicted felons

Source: AP

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — More than 200,000 convicted felons will be able to cast ballots in the swing state of Virginia in November's election under a sweeping executive order by Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced Friday that restores their rights to vote and run for office.

The Democrat said his actions would help undo Virginia's long history of trying to suppress the black vote.

"Too often in both our distant and recent history, politicians have used their authority to restrict people's ability to participate in our democracy," McAuliffe said in a statement. "Today we are reversing that disturbing trend and restoring the rights of more than 200,000 of our fellow Virginians, who work, raise families and pay taxes in every corner of our Commonwealth."

McAuliffe said he is certain he has the legal authority for this massive extension of voting rights after consulting with legal and constitutional experts, including Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring.

it's a recipe for bad government when the government can choose its voters.

This is a good move, but the plans already made for multinational companies as Ed Schultz spoke of last night, it's time to as Hillary is she is for drilling, and plans to do with with McAuliffe, after Obama and Terry were pushed back by the small businesses and US senators of those states and state senators of those states. So if Hillary wants to 'continue' Obama's work, Ed Schultz says it's time to make Hillary answer on the Atlantic drilling for oil and gas issue. Terry wants this, and tried t get it through with Obama! Two democrats?!!

So thanks Terry for restoring voting rights, for those who paid the piper. Now, back to that drilling of the coast issue...as we celebrate nothing after six years of destruction from the BPee oil blowout in the Gulf of Mexixo. Ruined it is.....and the paltry payout? So Atlantic states don't want this. Terry is fighting the people of VA. So, this all looks progressive cuz they want the keys. Remember, this is Hillary and Bill's best friend! Terry ran Bill's campaign, ran the DNC, Bill campaigned for Terry both times he ran, and Terry lent them the money for the down payment on their home when they left the White House. Terry is not from Virginia. Why did he put his bag down in that state? Look, some of these issues are decided years in advance.
Is this what Hillary and Terry are planning once she's in office, and getting their they do these great things, then turn around and do things like this. Like Obama's constant drilling plans off beaches NO NONE WANTS!

Is Hillary for the off shore drilling?

And for gawds-sake get rid of your death penalty Virginia! It's sickening.

Nonetheless, a small move in the right direction is better than nothing. So at least there is that.

I'd have to look closer at who still doesn't have his or her voting rights restored, but the law should lean in favor of restoring voting rights immediately upon a person's release. I dipped into the comments, and they're hilarious. All the pouting and whining about how many new Democratic voters this will create, which totally vindicates Gov. McAuliffe's assertion that the disenfranchisement of so many citizens in the first place was a partisan political maneuver.

By the way, Republicans, for all your complaining about voters of color rejecting your party, here's something you lot could have done for years, but didn't. Once again, minority voters see which party cares about them and their rights.

parole and probation to have been completed. http://felonvoting.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000286

Much, much better then no chance at all, obviously. But I agree with you. Time served should be enough.
