Swedish parents block 'gateway' yoga exercises

A pastor and his wife were among a group of Christian parents who pushed for the school in Rydaholm, southern Sweden, not to start teaching yoga to their children, a practice that was about to be introduced by a new teacher.

Linda Olsson contacted the local school authorities and pointed out that her husband David, the town’s pastor, was obliged to keep religion out of ceremonies held to mark the end of the school year. Shouldn’t yoga be subjected to the same scrutiny, she wondered.

Rydaholm is part of Sweden’s Bible belt and other Christian parents shared the Olssons' concerns about yoga and its links to Hinduism and Buddhism.

“Yoga is used by Buddhists as a form of meditation. We don’t know what it might lead to,” she told local newspaper Värnamo Nyheter.

3. I wonder if they realize that Buddhists also drink water, breath air and eat food. Those activities

might also be gateways to Hinduism and Buddhism and lord only knows what other evil things.

5. Good one, never heard that before. There's a very conservative Christian presence,

Bible Belt (?) among the Dutch so I've read and am not surprised.

9. A couple years ago Thom Hartmann had a guest on his program who

brought up a loose and remote rural Christian sect or group in the Northwest, maybe western Oregon or Utah who don't believe in vaccinations or taking their members to a doctor. He expressed how sad it is, the people- kids and elders just die if they are sick or injured. Awful...

I took Yoga classes, then a Vipassana meditation class, now I have Buddha as my profile image.

4. Lower Blood Pressure
5. Better Respiration
6. Better Circulation
7. Less Anxiety
8. Better Posture
9. Better Balance
10. Weight Loss
11. Lower Cholesterol
12. Lower Risk of Heart Disease
13. Improved Mood
14. Inner Calmness
15. Tones the Body

There are many more benefits than that.
