Sandusky victim: Joe Paterno told me to drop abuse accusation

Source: CNN

CNN)After four years of feuding over the legacy of Joe Paterno, with a few vague details about what he may have known about allegations of sexual abuse by one of his coaches, it is becoming clear there may be much more.

There are now two allegations by men who say they were sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky, who also say they reported their abuse to the legendary coach in the 1970s.

One of those allegations was made public in a court order related to a lawsuit Penn State University filed against its former insurer over who should have to pay settlements to the more than 30 men who have come forward as victims of Sandusky. The victim was not identified, and the details come from a deposition that is sealed.

The other has spoken to CNN, in great detail, explaining how he was a troubled young kid in 1971 when he was raped in a Penn State bathroom by Jerry Sandusky. Then, he says, his complaint about it was ignored by Paterno.

The 1976 facts came out long ago. We've known for quite a while that Paterno started protecting child rapists more than forty years ago.

Stop trying to confuse the issue. This is about protecting child rapists. That is what Penn State did. They protected child rapists. I don't care about some new confusion you're trying to add to the story about Paterno doing this. He did it.

No one would have dared to suggest doing that while he was living, but it was relatively easy to execute him when he was already dead.

I never gave a rat's ass about Joe Paterno, and didn't even know who he was, but as I tour colleges with my younger son, it is disturbing to see how much is invested in football in otherwise fairly prestigious universities.

This is somewhat ironic in institutions of "higher learning" since football quite literally seems to bash people's brains out, causing all kinds of neurological impairment.

over the importance we place on college athletics...

Over the years we've seen assaults, rapes, robberies, burglary rings, fraud rings, drug rings, drug use, gang activity, academic cheating, vandalism, car theft, shoplifting, illegal payouts, drunk driving, hazing, murder (yes, I said murder), etc. covered up or suppressed to protect the reputation of a program... But this was the very first time we've seen child molestation... It was literally the last untouched square on the "college sports crime bingo" card...

And the pains people took to sweep this under the rug, all for the sake of protecting a goddamned football program from even the weakest NCAA sanctions really made me take a hard look at what I was watching every Saturday...

Not ever with this case. I have seen first hand the destruction child abuse causes. They should give Penn State the death penalty and be done with it.

Rich men renting children from him, as I recall. I haven't seen a word about this since the original story broke.

Money is currently generally immune from justice. One hopes this will change.

They just don't care.

That's why nothing will ever be done to put a stop to this. Of course, there will be more scandals.

How many lives must be ruined before sports fans finally get it through their thick skulls that wrongdoing must be exposed instead of covered up? Oh, please, don't tell me the unpleasant answer! There will be no reformation. The corruption will continue, and many more will have their lives ruined. It will go on and on and on and on and on ...
