Transcripts of Conversations Between Zimmermans Are Released

Source: NY Times

In recorded conversations from jail, George Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, discussed how to move tens of thousands of dollars from the money that flowed into an online defense fund he set up to credit union accounts under her name and into his sister’s account, according to audio recordings of their conversations and court documents released in Florida on Monday.

Mr. Zimmerman, 28, who was arrested on second-degree murder charges in April in the death of Trayvon Martin, also instructed his wife to use the money he raised on the Web site to “pay the bills,” including their credit-card bills and her monthly tuition payment for nursing school.

Ms. Zimmerman denied knowing how much money the Web site had raised when she testified at her husband’s April 20 bond hearing. After prosecutors said that she and her husband deceived the court, Mr. Zimmerman’s bail was revoked on June 1 and his wife was arrested last Tuesday on perjury charges for testifying the couple did not have significant financial resources to help cover his bail costs. She was released after her arrest on a $1,000 bond.

A lot of people are speculating the state will press George to accept a plea deal in order to spare his wife. We'll see.

If you can funnel defense funds money for other purposes, you can't be to worried about the caliber of defense that you are able to afford.

That costs her a hundred bucks to get out. Not very serious.

11. AFAIK, bail isn't government income.

Since it's refunded after the trial, it's not income to the government. So the government isn't losing any money by posting less bail which means it's not defrauding the government out of money.

But I am not a lawyer.

They just got paid how much because he shot and killed a black child? That's what that fund was - a bounty payment by racists on the internet.

if this is getting any reasonable press in the area. Regardless of how carefully defense attorneys voir dire prospective jurors, it is very likely most of the jurors seated at trial (assuming there isn't a plea deal) will be aware of this conspiracy. If they are it compromise Zimmerman's credibility even if he doesn't take the stand in his own defense.
