AFL-CIO endorses Hillary Clinton

Source: CNN

(CNN)The leadership of the AFL-CIO voted on Thursday to endorse Hillary Clinton for president, according to a spokesman for the union federation.

"Hillary Clinton is a proven leader who shares our values," AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said in a statement after the vote. "Throughout the campaign, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the issues that matter to working people, and our members have taken notice. The activism of working people has already been a major force in this election and is now poised to elect Hillary Clinton and move America forward."

The endorsement from the more than 12 million member organization is a boon for Clinton, who after clinching the Democratic nomination for president will face Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump in November.

According to the AFL-CIO, the endorsement means the organization will "put in motion its ground campaign to elect Hillary Clinton and union endorsed candidates across the country." "We will run a sophisticated, targeted ground campaign," Trumka said. "And with the dire consequences Donald Trump poses for America's working families, it has to be."

So you think this is the DNC and Democrats are helping?

2013 - TIME - The Decline of Unions Is Your Problem Too

Last week came news that the share of America’s workforce that’s unionized hit a 97-year low. A mere 11.3% of workers now belong to a union, and a great chunk of those are in the shrinking public sector. In the private sector, unionization fell to an abysmal 6.6%, down from a peak of 35% during the 1950s.

Speculation. Yeah, the guy in the union and TIME magazine don't know what they're talking about. 97 year low, nothing to see here, says Cryptoad.

there should be more than one person from my congressional district on each of the standing committees?

All of these delegates are members of a labor union or work on behalf of one. Some of them might be considered lobbyists but they work directly on behalf of their labor union. They are DNC members for their respective state party.

The person representing labor on the Platform is the executive assistant to the President of AFSCME. That is high up in the chain of command for AFSCME. It could had easily been the President of AFSCME but it would had involved more work that his assistant could handle better. As it is the President of AFSCME is a DNC member.

so Bernie's temper tantrum could be assuaged.

Mark my words, Cornell West will hurt our party by saying something hateful and stupid about Hillary or Israel at just the right moment.

The guy is a charlatan as a philosopher. He also gets paid tens of thousands of bucks per speech and is likely quite rich from it. Man of the people right there.

He called Obama a "niggerized black man." Look it up. Bernie's selection of West for the platform committee erased my last bit of respect for Brother Bernie. West is a clown.

I essentially can't work for 2-3 months out of the year and have constant pay cuts bargained for to compete with low-wage labor that is imported. (I started my own business as a side job, which became successful - so no more doing electrical work. I still am a union member and can sign the book at any time).

I wouldn't say "because of Democratic Party and it's leadership" only because there are plenty in the D's that do not try to railroad the unions and there is obviously another political party that wants to demolish unions, too. But to say that Hillary or the recent Democratic establishment is good for unions simply isn't true (in the eyes of history and facts).

If you are for the TPP, you are against unions and the very idea for which they stand... period.

I'm not claiming that the D's run unions... I'm claiming that D's have implemented policies and look to implement the TPP which flies in the face of unions. Prove me wrong, please.

It's not bashing if it's true. Is Hillary supporting TPP or not? Who was instrumental to passing NAFTA and the 1994 Free Trade Agreements?

Stick your head in the sand all you want. Democrats used to be pragmatic thinkers, not cheerleaders.

Throughout the campaign, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the issues that matter to working people, and our members have taken notice. The activism of working people has already been a major force in this election and is now poised to elect Hillary Clinton and move America forward.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has brought an important voice to this election and has elevated critical issues and strengthened the foundation of our movement. His impact on American politics cannot be overstated.

We are ready to fight hard to restore faith in America and improve the lives of all working people. Hillary Clinton has proven herself as a champion of the labor movement, and we will be the driving force to elect her president of the United States.
