Obama: Republicans ‘playing chicken’ on student loans

Source: Yahoo News

President Barack Obama accused congressional Republicans on Thursday of "playing chicken" ahead of a looming deadline to pass legislation or see some student loan rates double come July 1.

"This is all about the economy," Obama told a crowd of students packed into the White House's East Room. "This should be a no-brainer."

Republican leaders charge that Obama has failed to answer their detailed proposals for how to pay for legislation to stop interest rates on a popular kind of student loan from jumping from 3.4 to 6.8 percent. The lawmakers have offered to defray the bill's estimated $6 billion cost with savings proposed in the president's own budget.

"He's missing in action. He has yet to offer a concrete solution," Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday in a speech on the Senate floor.

...there will be a "Mitt for President" commercial the next day, stating that Obama raised the percentage rate and killed all the kittens in all the animal shelters. And the lemmings will all send their "see why we need to take back our country!" emails...

He's Muslim and he is related to Saddam Hussein because of his middle name, and he is also related to Osama because his first name has too many vowels! How could he had not been the one to drive the first nail!?!?

Here is the solution, it seems quite simple:

Federal government will borrow the money for the 0% rate that is out there. It will then lend the money at the existing 3.4% rate to borrowers. It will earn a 3.4% return on the money less allowance for loan losses.

It would be socialism to bypass the private sector, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats.

Just like in Australia where the government gives out student loans at zero percent interest and remember the tarp money at or near zero that was authorized for 700 billion to bail out the banks but was closer to 16 trillion that was lent out. The US government buys out ALL the student loans and has them paid back at zero percent. Don't tell me this cant be done it can and it has. Help out people instead of corporations for a change and copy policies already in place in other parts of the world. Its a no brain-er.
