Trump Kids Ousted Corey Lewandowski, Leaving Paul Manafort in Charge of Campaign
Source: New York Magazine
Earlier Monday morning, Donald Trump and his adult children gathered for a regular strategy meeting at Trump Tower. Also present was Corey Lewandowski, the campaign's embattled manager. According to one senior Trump staffer briefed on the meeting, "things went south for Lewandowski, and he was fired." Shortly after, he was escorted out by security. Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign manager, is now fully in charge.
Lewandowski's ouster was the result of a coup led by Trump's children Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr., according to the staffer. And his abrupt dismissal culminates one of the most dramatic story lines of the 2016 campaign.
Lewandowski didn't respond to a call seeking comment.
In a statement, Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks said, "Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign. The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future."

(9,893 posts)Trump will dangle a significant sum in front of Lewandowski to be paid at a later date if Lewandowski keeps his mouth and his laptop closed.
The other alternative is that he is already bound by a confidentiality agreement with significant financial penalties if Lewandowski says or writes anything that is not favorable to The Donald.
Cases in point--neither of Donald's exes nor any of his mistresses have said anything negative about him.
Lewandowski is a wild man, but even wild men can understand numbers. Lewandowski is not the brightest bulb on the planet, but he's not THAT dumb.

(9,893 posts)Trump's experience is in business, and he's following the business model--and probably his attorneys' advice.
That doesn't make it nice, nor does it make it look good to many voters.
However, some of his followers are probably disappointed by a lack of video of The Donald screaming, "You're fired!"

(9,893 posts)The Donald's kids understand this in some way and have probably been managing The Donald since they were 12 or 13. They try to encourage his better side (if there is any) and discourage his worst sides (of which there are many). They love him in spite of himself, and he knows it. I would expect that not many other people really do, and he knows that, too. They are the only people that he really listens to. His current wife probably loves him, but seems to focus on their home and their child, which for her is sensible.
How do I know this? Personal experience.

(3,072 posts)This is something I noticed many years ago. Whenever a campaign is reaching its breaking point, they fire the top level staffers and bring in someone else. You see this a lot in primaries but it happens in the general election too. Clinton did it in 2008 in the primaries and McCain did it during the 2008 general. Campaign "shakeups" are never a good sign and usually don't fix shit. It is a move made out of extreme desperation, like a hail mary pass, rarely does it actually work.
Additionally, keep in mind, Manafort has been the de facto #1 guy in the campaign for months and still is. He is the one that has overseen all of the recent shit storms from this campaign. Bring in Michele Bachmann's 2012 campaign manager isn't going to fix anything. My god, how could it?

(3,072 posts)...no one that knows what they are doing is going to come aboard. It would be career suicide to become his new campaign manager. Lewandowski will be lucky if he is able to get a job managing a McDonald's after this. The best Trump is going to be able to do is some 4th tier republican strategist that would be overwhelmed running a state senate campaign.
amandabeech
(9,893 posts)Kudos to you, Doctor Jack.
If he gets past the convention, he may get better help solely because some Reps may decide that it would be better for the party if he gives it a real go. If they join at that point, they will have a better explanation to future candidates than if they join now.
In other words, the Bachman guy may be an interim appointment in reality.

Bachman got almost 5% in Iowa! That was good for 6th place. Watch out democrats, there is a master strategist coming for ya!

(9,893 posts)Hillary is a very bright policy wonk, but she isn't a natural politician like Bill. She will have a more difficult time recovering from any mistakes.
I don't want to see her campaign becoming complacent and underestimating the opponent.
I'm out here in Michigan, and the trade agreement issue is incredibly important, as it will be in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and maybe in North Carolina with the demise of the textile industry. This issue simply does not resonate in other places, including the northeast and the west coast, but don't underestimate its importance in the rust belt or the textile belt.
People here must be persuaded that Hillary regrets her support of NAFTA and MFN for China, and that she is now truly against TPP. She simply must persuade people or she is in danger. Appointing Bill as her economic czar may play well in some places, but not where I am.
Remember, many black Americans were employed in manufacturing, and the loss of those jobs really hurt the black community. GM's withdrawal from Flint caused the financial problems in the first place, as Michael Moore documented in his first film, "Roger and Me." The Buick City manufacturing complex still sits mostly decrepit on the north side of I-69 just east of downtown Flint, and it is a constant reminder. Perhaps I'm more sensitive to it, because my favorite cousin and his family still live around Flint, and my cousin lost his job in the economic catastrophe there. His wife is a teacher and that saved the family financially, but my cousin's health disintegrated. I'm sure that he is not the only one. Clinton really has to bring hope to these people lest they stay home or vote for Trump.

The money would have to set him up for life in a comfortable way, and offer him something to do with himself until he dies. That's a big order.

He was an adviser to the presidential campaigns of Republicans Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush and John McCain, and is currently employed by the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, as well as being a senior partner in the firm Davis, Manafort and Freedman. Manafort is also known for his successful efforts lobbying on behalf of Ferdinand Marcos, Jonas Savimbi, Viktor Yanukovych and other foreign leaders. In 1992, the Center for Public Integrity listed his firm amongst the top five lobbying on behalf of human-rights abusers.
