Mitt Romney: My Conscience Won't Allow Me to Vote for Trump or Clinton
Source: The Atlantic
Before the 1964 Presidential election, Governor George Romney was part of an effort to stop Senator Barry Goldwater from winning the Republican Partys nomination.
Today, his son Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 nominee for the presidency, has emerged as a leading establishment critic of Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. On Wednesday, he reiterated that he will not vote Trump due to defects in Trumps character and a belief that Trump is destroying the GOPs future with women, Hispanics, African Americans, Asian Americans, and millenials. Neither will Romney vote for Hillary Clinton.
Its a matter of personal conscience, he said. I cant vote for either of those two people. He suggested that he would write in his wifes nameshe would be an ideal president, he saidor he would cast his ballot for a third-party candidate.
And he reaffirmed that he will not be that candidate.

(70,501 posts)But Mitt's conscience isn't bothered by his using borrowwed money to buy up a
business then loading that business up with debt, selling off the parts of the business,
outsourcing the products the business made to China, laying off the employees,
looting the pension funds of that business' employees, and turning the health care
costs of the former employees over to the government. So what if that ruins people's
lives at least Mitt and his other wealthy friends make some money.

But, he's actually showing some principle in rejecting Trump, unlike the blatant sycophants or cowards in his party.

(260 posts)What pisses me off most about this idiot is that once losing the election he went right back to doing what he was doing prior to running - making himself more and more wealthy - did absolutely nothing with regard to public service, and then 'almost' ran again as if he's some kind of respected elder statesman.
There ought to be a law that says if you want to be President you should have to show some actual proof that you give a shit about making this country a better place for everyone, and not just a personal desire to milk it for all it's worth and then hand it back to the adults once you've taken as much as you can for you and your pals.
If so, we'd never have a Republican President.
