Trump: 'A Lot Of People' Feel That Black Lives Matter Is 'Inherently Racist'

Source: Associated Press

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Donald Trump said Monday he believes relations between police and the nation's African-American community are "far worse" than people think, predicting that protests against police violence that followed last week's slaying of five police officers in Dallas "might be just the beginning for this summer."

In an interview with The Associated Press, the presumptive GOP nominee struck a balance between the law-and-order rhetoric he has espoused during his campaign and an appreciation for the concerns held by African-Americans nationwide about the conduct of police. Trump suggested that a lack of training for officers might be at least partially to blame for the two police shootings that led to last Thursday's protest in Dallas, where a lone gunman killed five in an act of vengeance against white officers. At the same time,Trump denounced the name of the Black Lives Matter movement as "a very divisive term."

The interview followed a speech on veterans issues in which Trump declared, "I am the law and order candidate," an echo of Richard Nixon's response to protest violence that broke out in 1968 following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Like Trump, Nixon was a Republican running for president at the time.

"It's time for our hostility against our police, and against all members of law enforcement, to end, and end immediately, right now," Trump said during his speech, comparing anti-police sentiment to the harassment faced by returning veterans in the aftermath of the Vietnam War.

"Lots of people". How many times has a trump lie been preceded by those words?

Even as an older white guy, I find it revolting the way the right twists the blm movement into what it isn't. From all lives matter to blue lives matter to male lives matter (they don't say woman's lives matter though).

Really, does blm take ANYTHING away from any other group? No! How can it be racist?

Funny, people thought Martin Luther King Jr was 'inherently racist and a trouble maker". Some even think the NAACP term/title is racist too.

FYI Trump, if black lives really mattered, there wouldn't be any 'Black Lives Matter'.

FUCK YOU.

Stop right now?
Who the fuck do you think you are, my dad? my mom? Il Duce?

There is no way in hell that anyone seeking the office of the presidency should hold the thoughts that the solution to any problem is to first shut down any and all protests about the problem. I always knew the jackass was unfit for the office, but he keeps proving it over and over and over.

Secondly, enough of the racism and projectionism regarding Black Lives Matter.
You are white, Mr.Yam, the same as I...and neither one of us gets to dictate to African-Americans or dark-skinned people in general what they get to call their movement or how they express it or the general fact that the protests are not about all lives or how all life is precious, but rather are about how black lives are targeted freely and discarded by police in too many cases recently to ignore any longer. There is much, much more to the meaning of Black Lives Matter than a superficial analysis of "well, that sounds racist to me as a white man" can possibly pay justice to.

The systemic racism that makes whites so readily able to say or believe that "Black Lives Matter" is a racist term or group IS the problem. Demanding attention and debate - over what should be done anyway but obviously requires a kick in the ass to get moving - is NOT some kind of radical, "hate whitey" thing. It is entirely appropriate to say Black Lives Matter in the context of history - both recent and from the dawn of the Republic.

To imply that the movement is racist because of right wing bigoted talkiing points and lack of perspective is just sickening.

...that Donald Trump is a racist. What is his point? Other than to confirm to his racist audience that they're right and should hate minorities?

And he's the "law and order" candidate? The guy getting sued? And this is like vets harrassed after the Vietnam war? Exactly what war have police come home from? Who "drafted" them into this war? Soldiers are given the authority to kill foreign nationals in battle. But vets are not given the authority to kill unarmed American citizens under any circumstances outside of self-defense like the rest of us. And if they do, they're going to have to prove they were defending themselves in court. If the police are like such vets, why aren't they under the same restrictions? Why do they have the authority and power to stop unarmed American citizens, murder them and not have to answer for it in court?

I mean, if he's going to make the comparison, he'd better be able to show it's a valid one.

Obviously, I'm preaching to the choir ranting about this here. No one listening to him/voting for him would understand any of what I've just pointed out...nor care. But I sure hope someone in the media dares to call him on it.

It can be assumed that just about any sentence that starts out this way is leading into a straw man fallacy.

Also, "some people say..." and "there are those who say..." are also common substitutes. George Bush and many of the minions below him would often start their propositions this way when they had no factual statement to make, other than some generality about nothing. But it presented the illusion that what they had to say was common knowledge, when in fact the only people saying what they were saying were the people that were also living in their alternate right-wing world.

The police will be respected when they start treating minorities and women with respect. Right now too many people have had their lives endangered if not ended by out of control police. This will only change when the courts actually start caring and start prosecuting these murderers. When anyone who lies for them gets fired too.

23. Why does the adjective "black" make these people lose their minds and fly into a rage ?
Tue Jul 12, 2016, 05:35 PM
Jul 2016

It is disgusting to behold, but the projection of their prejudice and guilt is exquisite.

The adjective "black" needs to be there in order to be specific.

The adjective "black" needs to be there in order to be honest.

The adjective "black" is intended to expose the evil crux of the matter.

The adjective "black" confronts the immorality of our history and culture. The
zeitgeist of slavery and racism is our curse, and it still thrives in our country :
BLACK lives specifically have NOT mattered since they were brought here as
slaves 400 years ago.

It is this confrontation of the deep denial that enrages these miserable people
most of all.

They don't want to hear the history lessons about racism in America,
which is just as pervasive today. We now live in an Apartheid country.
They don't want to acknowledge that white people are NOT the target
for traffic stops, arrests, or shootings.
They don't want to hear that black families teach their children that
they could be killed by police at a traffic stop.
They don't want to hear about the statistics about arrests, searches,
police shootings, or the insane incarceration rates.

But they especially don't want to admit that, implicit in all these facts,
there lurks a shameful truth: In America, BLACK LIVES DON'T MATTER.
Black lives don't matter as much as the lives of white people, or they
simply don't matter at all.
When they insist that "ALL" lives matter in their smug way, they are trying
to dismiss the truth that a horrible, lethal racial bias exists. It is dishonest
to its core. (Hey, how's it going, George Zimmerman?)

Trump, Giuliani, Fox News and all the other deniers out there react in anger
and make crazy counter-accusations because BLM triggers a defensiveness
of their inner hatred and racism. They get defensive (uppity) and twist everything
to make themselves look like they are misunderstood victims and that black
people are the real racists. What evil mind works this way?

Rhetorical question to Mr. Trump
: If you were pulled over more than
50 times by police throughout your lifetime, would that imply you were being
targeted unfairly or that you were a guilty person of poor moral fiber?

Truthful Answer: If you are a white person (or orange), then it implies
that you are being unfairly targeted and harassed. However, if you are a black
person, it implies that there was a good reason to stop you every time and that
you must have been be guilty of something -- and CNN and Fox will be more
than happy to pimp that narrative, if you should ever get killed by police.

Another question for Mr. Trump
: A person is shot by police, perhaps shot in
the back as he is running away, after a traffic stop for an equipment violation.
What is the likelihood that the person is black ?

Truthful Answer: About 100% likelihood.

There's probably another thousand similar questions to be answered.

For that matter, a lot of people ignore Trump's bankruptcies and lawsuits and still think he's a brilliant businessman. They aren't right either.
