NBC's Luke Russert Says He's Leaving Network

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

His announcement Wednesday came on the eve of the national political conventions.
NEW YORK (AP) — NBC's Luke Russert, son of the late "Meet the Press" moderator Tim Russert, says that he's leaving NBC News to take some time away from political reporting.

His announcement Wednesday came on the eve of the national political conventions.

Russert, who is 30, has covered Capitol Hill for NBC News. He joined the network eight years ago shortly after his father died of a heart attack. He said in a note to colleagues that his career began in an unusual way and he never had the time to reflect, travel and figure out what his future should be.

Russert's last day at NBC will be on Friday.

Mr. Russert was busted wearing a "Bush/Cheney" button. I'm not lying. The apple didn't land too far from the tree as they say.

I think this came from Greg Palast's book, "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy". . . .:

"Reliable sources noted that Jack Welch and Tim Russert attended last autumn's Al Smith Dinner in New York together - and that Russert, on the back of his lapel, was cleverly wearing a Bush for President button".

How did I miss this - research has always been my weapon of choice...Russert WAS a cheerleader and at the forefront of the bushco Iraq war...mine eyes glazed over - and so much has been written about his softball questions in the run up to the war..

His reputation for being a "tough" interviewer was horseshit. Oh, he'd ask an occasional tough question, but he'd NEVER ask any follow-ups when he got an obviously ridiculous response. His interviews with Cheney were particularly bad.

You might be right, the use of a Reality Newsy show has been the launching pad for many so called self important wannabe Edward R. Morrow's.

He didn't have to work his way up the ladder like so many others and it really showed. He always looked like the 12 year old kid who gets to sit at the grownups table and tries too hard to act like an adult. He was so annoying, I'd often fast-forward or change the channel.

I believe. Many have disappeared over the past 2 years. MSNBC tends to use the commentators and then get rid of them. Luke Russert is too good for the Network and he most likely understands how his fellow commentators, reporters have been treated. This network is as bad as Fox News in the treatment of its employees. If you watch, Joy Reid has been used often on the network, covering for just about everyone. I suspect she will disappear when MSNBC gets done using her.

journalism, it is entertainment. If you are not entertaining, they'll bring in someone who will.

If you like Joy Reid, get people to watch her and help build her up on social media. If she is popular, they won't get rid of her.

and I think, in some ways, he was pushed into the position with the death of his father to carry one the legacy. that's a pretty big burden for anyone to carry.

I think he held on for as long as he could.

I think deep down, he knew this wasn't for him and that become obvious.

He just wasn't good at it.

I wish him luck.

As the years went on, I thought he really improved.
I also never noticed any real nasty bias in his reporting.
I thought he was a pretty strait arrow.
His twitter account seems reasonable. https://twitter.com/LukeRussert
