Donald Trump Says Hillary Clinton Can’t Make Mistakes, But Mike Pence Can
Source: Time
In his first interview with his new running mate, Donald Trump said it was alright for Mike Pence to make a mistake in supporting the Iraq War, but not okay for Hillary Clinton to have done the same.
I dont care, Trump said on 60 Minutes when journalist Lesley Stahl asked him about Pences support of the war.

One of Donald Trumps favorite cudgels against former Secretary of State Clinton is her vote for the Iraq War when she was a senator from New York, saying it shows a key difference in their decision-making ability that she supported the war and he did not. (Never mind the fact that he told Howard Stern in 2002 that he would support an invasion.)
But Indiana Gov. Pence, Trumps new running mate, also supported the war at the time. He co-sponsored and voted in favor of the bill authorizing the Iraq War when he was a House representative from Indiana, NBC reports.

(14,093 posts)He falsely claims, yet again, that he opposed it back then, when reality says just the opposite.
And Stahl lets him get away with it again.

(260 posts)He clearly has no idea who the guy even is, let alone what stances he has on issues.
Then again, Trump himself is rarely sure how he feels about his own stances on issues.
This campaign is just getting better and better from a comedic standpoint.

(8,203 posts)From Bloomberg:
-----Manafort dismissed the suggestion that Pence's support for the Iraq invasion in 2003 undermines Trump's argument that Clinton's support for the war demonstrates her bad judgment.
The relevant argument, Manafort said, is that the Middle East became less stable under President Barack Obama, with Clinton as his secretary of state, when U.S. troops left Iraq.
OMG - they are erasing the bush years to fit a small peg into a square hole...pence voted for Iraq - it's okay folk's..
Stay safe folk's - NEVER stop pushing back -- peacefully....
I cannot watch or listen to this train wreck..I will rely on the good folk's at DU who have more anger management than I do...

(9,350 posts)My problem with the Trump/Manafort comments is not that they are trying to erase the Bush years; my problem is that they are trying to have things both ways. Trump promotes the idea that he opposed the Iraq War and that the United States never should have invaded the country. Then he picks Mike Pence as his running mate. When called out for the pick due to Pence's support of the war he sends his surrogate out to claim that the real problem is that things got worse under President Obama when he removed troops from Iraq.
That is trying to have it both ways. Trump should not be able to on the one hand promote himself as being wise and smart for not supporting the Iraq War and then say it was wrong that the Obama Administration ended the war. Trump should not be allowed to say Hillary Clinton is not fit to be President because she voted for the Iraq War and the say she should not be President because President Obama ended the Iraq War while she was Secretay of State.
