State Dept: U.S. trusts impartiality, professionalism of joint investigation team for MH17 crash
Source: Interfax
The U.S. trusts the conclusions of the commission of the Dutch Safety Board about the causes and circumstances of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crash over Donbas on July 17, 2014, and will continue to cooperate with the Joint Investigation Team, the U.S. State Department has said.
The State Department recalled that the October 2015 report by the Dutch Safety Board confirmed that the MH17 was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. "Our own assessment has not changed the missile was fired from territory controlled by Russian-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine," the State Department said.
The Dutch Safety Board commission investigating the plane crash posted a report on October 13, 2015. The report said the plane was downed with a surface-to-air missile fired from a Buk anti-aircraft missile system.
In February 2016, British investigative journalists group Bellingcat presented information regarding the Russian brigade that the group believes provided, and possibly operated, the Buk-M1 missile launcher that downed Malaysian Airlines Flight 17. These are 20 soldiers from the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade based in Kursk.

(2,208 posts)Doesn't LBN require the actual correct source for a news article?
Here's why I keep bring this up, Interfax is actually a Russian news group, of which Interfax-Ukraine was, what, a division?
The Interfax-Ukraine News Agency (Ukrainian: Інтерфакс-Україна is a Kiev[1]-based Ukrainian news agency founded in 1992,[2] the company belongs to the Russian news group Interfax Information Services.[3] The company publishes in Ukrainian, Russian and English.[3]

So, is Interfax-Ukraine STILL owned by the Russian news group Interfax?
And again, the source of this article is NOT Interfax, it's Interfax-Ukraine.

Yes, Bellingcat as a narrative "mill" lacking substance was discussed at length by several posters disagreeing with you.
Here is the other thread from this morning where Bellingcat's credibility was discussed.

This reply from AntiBank was particularly scathing in its assessment of Bellingcat:

(59,503 posts)In October 2015, we welcomed the findings of the Dutch Safety Board in its final report on the cause of the MH 17 crash. This report validated that MH 17 was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. Our own assessment has not changed the missile was fired from territory controlled by Russian-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine.
The United States continues to work with the Joint Investigation Team and law enforcement authorities. We have full confidence that these professionals are conducting an impartial, credible, and comprehensive investigation that will form the basis of an independent prosecution to bring the perpetrators of this tragedy to justice.

Note that the article conflates the State Department statement (covered in the first three paragraphs) with more controversial information in the last quoted sentence. Note the article does NOT overtly say that the SD had any assessment at all of the work by the Bellingcat group.

(3,317 posts)Now, THAT's real news. True LBN, burning hot. I thought the State Department trusted the DSB from the start. So, it's reassuring to know they still trusted the DSB when it published its report in October 2015, I suppose. And now, they STILL trust the DSB, imagine that! Not that anything has happened since, but surely everyone was waiting with bated breath to learn what the State Department may state on that issue today.
And it's the third 'news' of its kind on the same day by the same poster.
uhnope
(6,419 posts)that a Ukrainian jet fighter shot down the passenger jet, despite the fact that all investigations and the world community in general have ascertained otherwise. The Kremlin might still be pushing that debunked BS, which I guess is why you are too.
Do you have any interesting theories about the moon landings, btw?

Oh, oh, I know... it serves as a narrative mill to keep a story detrimental to Russia active in the media?
Look, we all know butt-head rebels shot down the plane with a missile system the Russians gave them. Enlarging on that isn't the point of this OP, the point is to keep that story in the news for years.
Ever notice that when both the Ukraine and the US shot down civilian jetliners, the story faded quickly? That's because the backwards Russians don't know how to use narrative mills like we do.
And for the record, shooting down civilian airliners is inexcusable and countries that supply weapons bear some responsibility for what is done with their weapons.
I hold Russia responsible here, as I hold the US responsible for what Saudi Arabia is doing in Yemen with weapons we supplied. I am consistent that way, and will probably be accused of having a hobgoblin infested mind for that. lol ( i.e. "Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds" quote/cliche) THAT has happened to me before, right, LW? lol
