A university in Ohio is withdrawing as the host of the first presidential debate of the general election season over safety concerns, according to Dayton Daily News.
Wright State University President David Hopkins said that fears in the wake of recent terrorist attacks and the rising cost of security prompted the school to drop out from hosting the Sept. 26 debate.
I cant assure the safety of our students and the community, Hopkins said. Hopkins noted that the local community and state werent able to raise the funds to cover the $8 million needed to put on the debate.
The debate will be moved to Hofstra University in New York, which was the backup location and has previously hosted presidential debates, according to Politico.

(5,902 posts)The location of the debate itself is irrelevant; it's the fact that assault rifle and semi-automatic toting goons can force any university in this country to avoid hosting debates as a precaution, that should concern us.
This is exactly the sort of threat we hold the third world in contempt for - and here we are, very much going down the same road.
