2 former paramedics charged in 'selfie war' with patients

Updated 7:14 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2016

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say two paramedics engaged in a "selfie war" by taking pictures with incapacitated patients.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says in a news release that 24-year old Kayla Renee Dubois was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of interception and disclosure of oral communications. Authorities have issued arrest warrants for 33-year old Christopher Wimmer on seven counts of the same charge. The release says Wimmer also faces a misdemeanor battery charge for holding open the eyelid of a sedated patient.

The release says the selfies included 41 patients, three of whom apparently agreed to the photos.

The sheriff's office began investigating in May after complaints from three other emergency workers. Dubois was fired a week later, and Wimmer resigned the same day.

umm, huh? I thought they were guilty of taking selfies with incapacitated people.

WTF is that particular charge anyway? Sounds like they were arrested for listening in to something and leaking it to someone.

ID them. Nothing like age, gender, location, health issue, pict, etc. Any photos or identifying in to has to be locked up safely, not texted about.

Dubois is charged with two counts of interception and disclosure of oral communications — a third degree felony that basically translates to recording a person without their knowledge or consent. Wimmer is charged with seven counts of interception and disclosure, as well as one count of misdemeanor battery.
