Donald Trump implies Vladimir Putin uses 'the N-word' to describe Barack Obama
Source: Independent UK
The US election campaign has plunged to new a level of accusation and toxicity after Donald Trump claimed Russian leader Vladimir Putin had no respect for Barack Obama and appeared to imply he used a racial epithet to describe the American president. He also encouraged Russia to hack the emails of his election rival Hillary Clinton.
In comments that were extreme even by the standards Mr Trump, the Republican candidate was asked by reporters in Florida about the controversy surrounding the alleged Russian hacking of Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails.
Mr Trump said Mr Putin had neither respect or affection for Mr Obama. He implied that he had heard the Russian leader use a racial slur to describe the US president.Trump talking Putin goes from "he called Obama the n-word" to "I hope he likes me" in 20 seconds.
I was shocked to hear him mention the N-word, said Mr Trump, who has previously spoken of his admiration for the Russian leader. You know what the N-word is.

Funny how no one accuses me of being too focused on Russia anymore! But I'd much rather I had been wrong about this.

This contemptuous shell of a human being spent a grubby little life flailing about in the lowest dirt, trying to find some idiot - any unprincipled idiot - to provide his insatiable ego the attention it so pathetically craves.
This is not an American representative. This is a stain on America - a political disease.

Personally, it sounds like Trump just makes crap up to try to sound important.
But kudos on finding a story where we are supposed to believe tRump now just to slander poor FeArless Leader, I mean Putin.

(9,888 posts)Clearly it's in the voicemails that were released. Putin called the DNC and, through an interpreter, left someone a message calling Obama the n-word. The NSA, ever vigilant, has a copy they got through a dump one night. They forwarded it to Trump as part of a faux security briefing about two weeks ago.
JoyBugaloo
(99 posts)...but I doubt that the N-word has the same connotation in Russian....Putin needs an interpreter for the English speaking hosts during conferences that I've seen.....why would he use an inherent English word?
just sayin'....
RobinA
(9,888 posts)the same thought. Putin knowingly uses an Amercanism to slur an American president? Why? The word carries no weight with a non-English speaker.
To top it off, Who cares, Donald? We aren't electing Putin, we will never be electing Putin. What does this have to do with anything?

Thank you so much for your humbling correction that I haven't seen much of the world....and thank you for assuming that you know anything about me...
nah - the N word is pretty much reserved for Americans....oh people may know the meaning of the word.....but the use is inherently American

A lot of those folks were hilarious, in country for years and didn't speak the language, drank Budweiser and went out to MacDonalds for the family night out.
I don't know if that is your experience but it was mine during my 3 years living in Germany.
And it's not hate in me, it was an observation, albeit a awkward one at times. I believe they knew the word was wrong, but not the depth of its meaning.

(728 posts)what did Trump say when he heard Putin put down his president in such a way? Someone should ask this question of Clown Donald. Did he admonish Putin and stand up for his country, or did he agree and laugh and kiss Putin's ass? We don't need an ass kisser as president.

(35,300 posts)Assuming the Trump did actually have a tete-a-tete with the Great Putain, it might be the case it was inappropriate. You want to make a deal, insulting the other side is a piss-poor way of doing it.
Rather like trying to get a budget deal with Congress and telling them they're children and need to eat their peas. It's a foolish thing to do.
Then again, perhaps he heard this on youtube, on tv, on video. I've heard Obama say many things I disagreed with, but to date have yet to reproach him or correct him. Simply put, I haven't ever met the man and figure that a strongly worded letter over such things is pointless. Moreover, were I to be insulting about it as many would have wanted Trump to be, well, see my first paragraph.
livingonearth
(728 posts)I don't believe the whole thing ever took place. It's just a way for Trump to pretend other leaders in the world disrespect Obama. It's an often repeated meme with the Republicans, to act as though America has lost respect in the world because of Obama being president. He probably used Putin because it would be harder to fact check.

(6,419 posts)Putin doesn't speak English. Now, at least.
In fact, it was a surprise when he was pissed off and opened his mouth in response to a question in English before the interpreter could interpret. Putin's answer needed no translation because it was in English. In other words, the interpreter was there for what many a conference or escort interpreter is there for: First, to make sure that the client's language skills aren't overwhelmed, so he inadvertently misunderstands or misspeaks an answer; two, to keep the other person guessing.
If you're doing a presser and get a question but have an automatic 15-20 second "silent space" in which you can formulate your answer before the audience assumes you can even begin to formulate your answer, you're a step ahead of monolinguals who can't let that dead space hang there. And while the answer's being translated back, you have another 10-15 seconds or more in which to issue a correction, addition, or further rebuttal.
You can also, if you know your audience really well, talk to the interpreter ahead of time. Interpreters can often clean up bad utterances, mask dysfluencies, and even bowdlerize what was said if told to do so ahead of time. It's a gray area in ethics between serving the client and serving your craft. If native speakers of both languages are in the audience, you can't do it. But interviews, sure.

(42,552 posts)If there's a Russian equivalent of the N-word, it wouldn't surprise me if Vlad uses that in casual conversations, but I really doubt he uses the English word in English conversations with people he barely knows. I know it's hard for you to comprehend, Donald, but most people have a functioning filter that keeps them from blurting out every stray random thought that flits through their head.

He can attribute it to Putin, whom he praises like he owes the guy money, but when I heard it I knew that he was using it as an excuse to say it within 7 words of the President's name. His followers heard or at least know what he meant.
Everyone is focusing on him asking a foreign government to spy on us but to me this was the worst thing he said yesterday and is a new low in our history.

(24,695 posts)then, if I had grown children, still at home and wanted to go, I would not be sending them there----------------no offense, but really.
One day he said this, the next day he says that-----------------I just can't imagine this man having to attend to a five day conference with lets say NATO, or the G7, or visiting the prime minister of Canada.
And for him to sign contracts, thinking on how to stiff people out of money owed, is right there at the top of the check list---is amazing and the Ryan and McConnell and all of the republicans are besides themselves-------------------hey, republicans this is "your guy and his running mate".
And then to just add to his bombastic attitude of narcissism he somehow goes into racial slurs, just like when he supposedly sent "investigators" to Hawaii when he was leading the birther pact on Obama-------------am I missing something, everything he does or says goes back onto the realm of hate and fear.
It would be laughable if it wasn't so serious dealing with a narcissistic fraud, that looks and sounds like he really needs to see someone medically, what I don't understand and find amazing is how do businesses sign contracts with him.
Doesn't he belong the the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, because if so, then that doesn't say much about that rating firm

(4,033 posts)When Putin talked about Obama and used the n-word (y'all know what the 'n' word it, right?) he said "nuclear". Putin was just trying to say he really didn't want a nuclear confrontation with Obama before he could get his sock puppet (who he has never met, by the way, except when they were 'stablemates' on 60 minutes or at the Miss Universe contest, or whatever it was) into the White House and in control of the football (or soccer ball, or whatever it is).

(7,134 posts)He's totally deranged but he has just enough survival skills to understand that if HE used the n word in public, it'd be all over for him. So he puts that word into the mouth of Putin, despite having said just a minute ago that he's never met or spoken with him.
That said, many Russians are racist (no such thing as political correctness over there). Earlier this year, some jackass amused himself by lighting up the side of a building in Moscow with a rendering of Obama being lynched. No one but the US Embassy was outraged. Still, even if Trump had spoken to Putin, I cannot imagine that the Russian would be so undiplomatic as that. Putin is a cunning fox but he has incredible self-restraint and discipline. To say something like that to a virtual stranger is decidedly NOT his style.
More likely, Manafort's handlers in the SVR (Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service) let slip a few choice words and they were reported up to Trump as coming from Putin.
And yes, I truly believe that Manafort is on the SVR payroll. Like his boss, he'll take money from anyone and has zero scruples.
