UN: Freedom Of Assembly In US Threatened By Inequality

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- A United Nations expert says the right of freedom of assembly in the United States is threatened by racial, social and economic inequality.

Maina Kiai, U.N. special rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, said in a statement issued Thursday that "racism and the exclusion, persecution and marginalization that come with it, affect the enabling environment for the exercise of association and assembly rights."

He said economic inequality, unnecessarily aggressive and militarized policing and disproportionate counter-terrorism measures also contribute to a hostile climate for freedom of assembly.

They do have a point.

I hope this will be widely reported by the MSM.

Does this mean kids gathering on street corners, or BLM protesters in safe areas?

Does it include protests that block streets or businesses? Because that's not clearly part of the 1A.

Don't know if they're "no restrictions on the 1A" like some are "no restrictions on the 2A", skewed, or right. A lot of times you find what you already know must be there, no matter how weak the evidence or strong the counter-evidence. Sometimes you find what really is there. UN folk are seldom unbiased.

If if she's just saying that because of what's seen on youtube some are afraid to protest because big scary vehicles and police dressed in scary ways scare them. (The solution to that is to make some of those big scary vehicles and scarily-dressed officers do some PR events in various neighborhoods to let kids climb all over the things. Kids are suckers for APCs and BearCats. Lots of kids think they just look cool until they're taught fear, usually at an age before they are at any real risk. Same for a lot of "weaponized" uniforms.)
