Witnesses: Shots fired in Ferguson after car hits protester

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Gunfire broke out during a demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri, on the second anniversary of Michael Brown's death, disrupting what had been a peaceful gathering Tuesday night but apparently wounding no one.

Witnesses told an Associated Press reporter that a car sped through a group of protesters who were blocking a street during the demonstration marking two years since the unarmed black 18-year-old's fatal shooting by a white police officer. They said the car struck a young man so hard that he flew into the air. As the car drove away, shots were fired, they said.

"A lady came down and hit a protester — knocked the shoes off his feet," said Sharon Cowan, who was at the scene. "Hit him, and he rolled and he bounced."

The man appeared to be badly injured and was put into a private car to be taken to a hospital, she said.

Don't mention a murderous woman in a car who badly injured, possibly has killed, a young man in the headline. Shots fired? Really? At whom? By whom? If it was at the car that hit the kid, it doesn't make it right, but it certainly makes sense. In Bundyland that would be called self defense and standing their ground in defense of another. But no - it's Ferguson so it's "thugs" doing scary illegal stuff in the street.

4. The streets were not closed down

And very few people were in the streets.

Was it a driver who was looking to mow somebody down? Possibly.

Was it also somebody who was texting on their phone and not paying attention? Also a possibility. Until more facts come out, I don't know either way. (The driver of the car was almost certainly going over the speed limit)

I also wonder if it was a hit an run, how were people shooing at the car 1 minute after they hit the person in the street? The car should have been long gone. Did it stop? I don't know, its not clear in the video.

Seems that the guy who was hit was mentioned in the report. And in the headline.

Watch the video. A few people were edging into the street. It wasn't a small one-lane-each-direction street. He was hit by a car moving at least 30 mph. Maybe she didn't see him--I saw dark pants and at first thought he had on a dark shirt (but under it a white t-shirt?).

By the time the shots were fired the car was far away. Perhaps at a traffic light down the street, perhaps through the light. Don't know why the shots were fired, but perhaps out of rage--"somebody hurt one of my own, I gotta hurt somebody on the other side" (it's known as collective or communal punishment; progressives and liberals used to be against it before).

Then again, perhaps it was personal for the shooter, and he just wanted somebody else shot. Or perhaps he just confused his trigger with his other trigger.

As for not stopping ... perhaps she was black (in which case it's the kind of Crime That Must Not Be Mentioned and will vanish). If she's white, well, I wouldn't have stopped either. Why? Maybe he was trying to start a closure of roadway and he was struck by car in which lady went right to police station. I wouldn't of stopped either for fear of life, Next time maybe flashlights and reflective vests to walk onto four lane highway.
