Clinton campaign had $58 million war chest at the start of August

Source: CNBC

Hillary Clinton's campaign boosted its fundraising in July, building up its war chest even as it spent more money than the previous month, according to Federal Election Commission data released Saturday.

The committee for the Democratic presidential nominee ended the month with $58.5 million on hand, up from $44.4 million at the end of June. A report with the FEC showed "total receipts" of $52.3 million in July, up from $36.4 million in June.

In a separate statement, the Clinton campaign said it saw $62.3 million in total contributions for the month.

Clinton's campaign reported $38.2 million in disbursements for July, up from $34.5 million in June. For perspective, in July 2012, Mitt Romney's campaign reported $32.7 million in disbursements. President Barack Obama's committee said it spent $58.9 million.

The $58 million doesn't include money raised by super pacs.

Can anyone find information about the FEC report that Trump would have filed today? I looked but couldn't find it.It would be interesting to see how much he actually raised and where it's going (not much to field offices or to TV ads, compared to Hillary).

Even so, for the time being I'm glad that as far as campaign fundraising goes it's still advantage Hillary.

6. We need a different Supreme Court for that. We used to have public funding, but the Court

ruled that no candidate could be required to take it. And Obama realized that he couldn't compete successfully with the GOP if he was the only one taking Federal funds.

On edit: FEC still has Clinton's and Trump's totals at the beginning of July. I'm not sure where CNBC is getting their data.

4. I have just one question:

Why does a presidential candidate need to raise millions of dollars to be elected to a job which only pays $400,000 a year?

7. Because TV ads cost money. UK does it right - no TV ads and other ads only weeks before election.

9. If Trump is so rich, why is he short-changing his campaign?

He hasn't put even $100 million into his campaign. What he has put in is mostly in loans. And he keeps steering the campaign to spend money at his businesses.

He claims to be worth $10 billion. $100 million would only be 1% of that. He won't even spend 1% on his crummy campaign? I have to wonder if he's going broke and won't tell us.

2. He's leveraged up to his weird hair. He is cash poor. Probably less than $200 Million cash on hand. Maybe a lot less.

Per Mark Cuban, who examined Trump's FEC filings:

"Finally, because all Trump-era politics must come down to a hand-measuring contest, Cuban cited the candidate’s recent F.E.C. filings to proclaim that he, not Trump, was the richer of the two. “Before all the Trumpians jump on me on who has more money, the reason I know is when you file your federal election campaign reports, you have to list all your cash and liquid securities and bonds,” Cuban argued. “You have to list them one by one. So we know without any question that as of May 27, Donald doesn’t have more than $165 million in cash and securities and bonds. And trust me, I’ve got a lot of more than that in cash, securities, and bonds.”
