Maine Governor Paul LePage says hes considering resigning following a rash of incendiary and odd outbursts, including calling a state legislator a socialist and a cocksucker in a voicemail message.
Im looking at all options, the twice-elected Republican governor said while appearing on WVOM, a radio station in Bangor. I think some things Ive been asked to do are beyond my ability. Im not going to say that Im not going to finish it. Im not saying that I am going to finish it.
He later said, If Ive lost my ability to help Maine people, maybe its time to move on.
LePage canceled a town hall Tuesday in Westbrook, the hometown of that state legislator, Drew Gattine, and is meeting with Republican legislators Tuesday night, fueling speculation that a resignation could come soon.

Well, thats that. I will not resign, Governor Paul LePage of Maine said Wednesday morning, a day after he had floated that possibility in a radio interview. The combative governor made the declaration after meeting with Drew Gattine, the Democratic state representative whom he had berated in an obscenity-laced voicemail message and mused about shooting between the eyes in a duel.
Facing calls to step down from Democrats, and pressure to take corrective action from fellow Republicans, LePage announced that he would seek spiritual guidance with his wife and children. But he said he would not seek professional help as Democrats had been urging him to do.
The uncertainty exasperated leaders of both parties, who said the Maine governor crossed a line with his recent comments.
Im not an alcoholic and Im not a drug addict and I dont have mental issues, LePage said. What I have is a backbone, and I want to move Maine forward. Speaking to reporters, LePage vowed that he would that he would never again speak to the media, whom he accused of stoking controversies.
