Missouri lawmakers override gun, voter ID vetoes

Source: Reuters

Missouri lawmakers pushed through bills on Wednesday eliminating the need for permits to carry concealed weapons and requiring voters to show a photo identification before casting a ballot, overriding Democratic Governor Jay Nixon's vetoes of the bills.

Both votes by the Republican-controlled state House and Senate reached the two-thirds majority required to enact legislation over the governor's veto.

The weapons bill abolished a state law requiring a permit, training and background checks for people who want to carry a concealed weapon in the state.

The House voted 112-41 to override Nixon's veto and the Senate voted 24-6.

This bit of gun whackery is worse than the norm since you don't even have to have training.

The MO supreme court ruled against it. As usual the GOP has worked out a deviously clever way of working around it.

There is a constitutional amendment that would enable the law on the ballot. If the amendment passes, there is no way to challenge this law. But, if it doesn't pass, it cannot be implemented.

Section 10. A person seeking to vote in person in public elections may be required by general law to identify himself or herself and verify his or her qualifications as a citizen of the United States of America and a resident of the state of Missouri by providing election officials with a form of identification, which may include requiring valid government-issued photo identification. Exceptions to the identification requirement may also be provided for by general law.

If it passes, it will take a SCOTUS ruling to eliminate it.

Everyone I knew growing up there that had half a brain have left- Better pay, better environment, better roads-

People love to say Texas is a shithole and I just LOL..No, Texas has some pretty damn good cities and communities. Only decent place I can even think of anymore in Missouri is the Maryland Heights area and that is about it. I went to MO for a work trip couple years back and took a drive to my old stomping grounds in Fenton. It's like the clock stopped there in 1990

So now the right to vote requires ID, but anyone, even a felon or illegal immigrant has second amendment protection?

by Federal and Missouri law.

The Seventh Circuit ruled that illegal immigrants have a right to own firearms. I believe the question of carry has not been definitively answered.
