Ayotte stumbles when asked if Trump is role model for children

Source: MSN/The Hill

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) said she would "absolutely" point to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump as a role model for children, but still declined to endorse him for president in an awkward answer to a debate question Monday night.

During the second debate in the critical New Hampshire Senate race, Ayotte, who faces a tough challenge from New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan (D), was asked whether she sees Trump as a role model.

"Well I think that certainly there are many role models that we have, and I believe he can serve as president and so absolutely I would do that," Ayotte said.

When asked why she still won't endorse Trump outright, the GOP senator reiterated that she differs with him on certain issues and then pivoted to hit Hassan for the governor's support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Kelly Ayotte says she ‘misspoke’ by saying Donald Trump is a role model for children

In a tight race that could determine control of the Senate, Senator Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire described Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as “absolutely” a role model for children during a televised debate Monday, then later backtracked in the face of criticism.

“I misspoke tonight. While I would hope all of our children would aspire to be president, neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton have set a good example and I wouldn’t hold up either of them as role models for my kids,” Ayotte said in a statement less than three hours after the debate ended.

It would be so nice if she got her ass kicked out of the Senate.

Take a stand and speak your mind. Show some intestinal fortitude instead of running like an alligator is chasing you. Don't be a political hack.

Also, Hilary has done more for people in a day than Ayotte has done for the people of New Hampshire in her life.

Maggie will stoke this flame for a good long while.
You may recall Ayotte's gutsy answer earlier this year when asked about Trump: "I'll support him but I won't endorse him."
