Electoral authorities in Mexico have announced they will recount votes cast at more than half of the polling stations in Sunday's presidential election after finding inconsistencies.
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the leftist PRD had demanded a total recount after initial results put him in second place.
He accused leading candidate Enrique Pena Nieto of breaking electoral rules.
Mr Pena Nieto of the PRI denied allegations his party had bought votes.

(1,881 posts)especially after being solely responsible for creating the virtual oligarchy that exists there today. A very tiny minority of wealthy families control everything there - a model for today's GOP. Certainly Obrador's war on the cartels took a massive toll. Its hard to fight a war when half your police force is corrupt because they don't make enough money to live on. Putting the PRI back in control returns the old status quo of turning a blind eye to everything. Did Mexico give up that easily? Perhaps. Look what happened here in the States. After Clinton led us to one of the largest economic boons in our history and balanced the books, we elected the very same people back into office who were responsible for turning our creditor society into a debtor society.

They used those same tricks in a less advanced way.
Not shocked and won't be enough to throw it off

(135,060 posts)(Reuters) - Mexico's Enrique Pena Nieto was a clear victor in Sunday's presidential election, according to a second tally of votes made after the runner-up refused to accept defeat.
With 97 percent of polling stations counted by Thursday afternoon, Pena Nieto held 38.3 percent of the vote, nearly 7 points ahead of leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
A win for Pena Nieto sets up a return to power by the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, which ruled Mexico, at times ruthlessly, between 1929 and 2000.
Mexico's Federal Electoral Institute, or IFE, expected to conclude the final vote count later on Thursday and certify the results on Sunday, when an official count of results from the congressional elections was due.
