Donald Trump shed any pretense of trying to hold his party together Monday, pouring gasoline on an already scorching confrontation with Republican leaders in Washington as they reckon with their nominee's spiraling campaign.
Trump swung hard at House Speaker Paul Ryan, who announced he was abandoning efforts to help elect Trump earlier in the day. His team highlighted the number of voters who pledged to vote only for Trump and no other Republicans. And Trump's Virginia state director convened a protest outside the headquarters of the Republican National Committee, accusing the party of bailing too quickly on their only chance to stop Hillary Clinton.
These are all establishment guys who have never supported him, and theyre using this latest thing as a pretext for withdrawing their support, said Corey Stewart, the Trump Virginia director.

29 days before the election, the nominee is attacking the highest ranking member of his own party, who is refusing to support him in the general election.
Meanwhile, the nominee's Virginia campaign operatives CANCEL THEIR GOTV EFFORTS to go protest their own party's HQ in the District of Columbia.

(43,672 posts)He doesn't know what he stands for, so many conflicting positions
Is he fighting Hillary? Yes. Is he fighting Republicans? Some, to the extent
they are the establishment.
Is he fighting the Tea Party? No, but does he know there are mainstream
Republicans who don't agree with Tea Partiers? Looks like a no to me.
At various points in his campaign, even the primaries, he opposed long-standing
GOP positions. Now the entire party is suspect.
The Clown Car got played. We're lucky that process woke up America.

(4,033 posts)The GOP is not going to recover from this debacle. First the let a rather small cadre of tea-party wingnuts hijack their majority in congress. Then they let a pathological liar and narcissist win the nomination. Then they let him get away with his horrible lies and his Hitlerian rhetoric go unopposed. Now, just 30 days until the election they are disavowing their own creation.
I am truly afraid of what will happen when he loses in a landslide and his base of KKK, Muslim-hating, 'lock her up' chanting, gun freaks realize that the 'rigged election' has cost them their fuhrer. I am afraid of rioting and violence on a scale that will make the 'days of rage' in Chicago in 1969 look like a picnic.
And what will the GOP have left? A splintered party, with the alt-right crowd at war with the GOP establishment and no place for the moderate conservatives to go.

(130,581 posts)Well... Hidden during the drama of election season over the summer, Limpballs apparently had a contract extension (but with a big pay cut) - http://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/08/02/why-reports-about-rush-limbaughs-contract-renewal-dont-mention-price/212114
So he will still be there to give them (faked) cover as well as to harass and stalk women like the rest of them!

(382 posts)He will be seen in the future as a true blessing for humanity. Not only has he killed any possibility of the Republicans taking the White House but he and "his team" are gleeful about many of his voters who have "pledged to vote only for Trump and no other Republicans". He is happy because he is screwing people (Republicans are people too) who haven't kissed his ass enthusiastically enough and also of course because it's his nature. He's like a suicide bomber at the top of the Republican party who is going to take as many of them with him as possible when he flames out. Thank God for this mentally disturbed creepy narcissistic asshole.
