Carson's prepared testimony contained apparent plagiarism
Source: The Hill
Remarks prepared for secretary of Housing and Urban Development nominee Ben Carson to deliver at his Senate confirmation hearing Thursday appeared to include a portion of plagiarized text.
Carson, a former neurosurgeon and GOP presidential candidate, did not actually deliver the prepared remarks before the Senate Banking Committee.
Instead, he quickly departed from written remarks provided to the committee and the public, which were posted on the committee's site. But two paragraphs of that text appeared to be lifted word for word from a 2008 report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation detailing health risks that can come from substandard housing.

Carsons extemporaneous comments did not refer to the copied text. He instead spoke at length about his life experiences growing up poor in Detroit, his rise to become one of the nations most prominent neurosurgeons and his overall opinion on the role of the government in supporting the American public.

(7,627 posts)We should not be surprised that we keep discovering that many of the people associated with Trump are crooks and plagiarists.
They get nominated to positions for which they have zero qualifications. Not knowing a thing, they try to con their way out of it by putting together documents/speeches cobbled out of things written by other people.
Melania Trump, Monica Crowley, now Ben Carson. Of course this also reflects for some of them intellectual laziness and hubris (thinking you deserve a phD and yet, not bothering to do the work, but instead cutting and pasting from other people as is the case for Crowley.)

(9,350 posts)Maybe Meredith McIver wrote Monica Crowley's book and PhD dissertation, went on to write Melania Trump's Republican Convention speech, and then wrote Ben Carson's written testimony.

(297,180 posts)guarantee that trump's family wouldn't benefit from HUD..
"How can any nominee say with a straight face state that he can't guarantee that the President won't be enriched by government money under their management??? This just boggles my mind. Considering that the Trump family currently has an investment with a HUD-financed or subsidized project, it would still be appropriate -- nay, demanded -- that the nominee answer the question with a resounding "no" with the carve out for existing contracts. But absolutely NO NEW BUSINESS WITH THE TRUMPS (or renegotiated or renewed) while Donald is office. To me Carson's non-answer is evidence of an unqualified NO to his appointment."
