Obamas donate White House playground

Source: MSN/USA Today

WASHINGTON — With just four days left living at the White House, President Obama donated their daughters' south lawn playground to a Washington homeless shelter as part of a Martin Luther King Day service project Monday.

"Malia and Sasha's Castle," as the wooden play set was known, is now at the Jobs Have Priority shelter, a 28-apartment complex in southeastern Washington.

The Obamas even showed up to demonstrate how to use the equipment. The president pushed two girls in the swing, while Mrs. Obama showed a younger boy how to use the rope swing.

* * *
President and Mrs. Obama also spent about half an hour helping to paint a King-themed mural at the center, which primarily serves young African-American mothers with two to three young children, many with a mental, developmental or physical disability.

Of course, according to Republicans, President Obama should be out 24/7 trying to convince everyone to forgive Trump's many insults in the interest of unity.

Also, Trump won't be able to smuggle in hookers to pee on it.

WASHINGTON – The White House Kitchen Garden will be maintained and preserved into the future, thanks to a $2.5 million donation from the Burpee Foundation and the W. Atlee Burpee Company to the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks. The donation, part of the National Park Foundation’s $350 million Centennial Campaign for America’s National Parks, was announced today during an event with First Lady Michelle Obama at President’s Park (White House).

https://www.nationalparks.org/about/pressroom/press-releases/25-million-donation-preserves-white-house-kitchen-garden

And

Over the summer, Michelle Obama commissioned a team of faculty members and students from the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture to design a communal table and gathering space for the White House Kitchen Garden.

With the Obamas’ time in the White House drawing to a close, the announcement came recently that the White House Kitchen Garden will become a permanent part of the South Lawn, thanks in part to a $2.5 million donation from The Burpee Foundation. The first lady introduced the kitchen garden in 2009 as part of her “Let’s Move!” initiative, which fights childhood obesity and promotes healthy lifestyles.

The University of Virginia team, led by landscape architecture professor Elizabeth K. Meyer, was tasked with creating garden spaces and structures that encouraged community, as guests visiting the garden range from schoolchildren to dignitaries.

“The first lady was interested in the garden not just as a place to produce food, but as a social space where children and adults can gather to learn something about the relationships between gardening, food and their own health and well-being,” Meyer told UVAToday.

One of the pet stores (I think PetCo, might have been PetSmart) put out a piece detailing each candidate's policy on animals. I forwarded it along on Facebook and got zero traction with it, but Hillary had by far the best position, a whole section of her website devoted to it, not to mention that she has pets.

I understand that people have allergies, or live where they can't have pets, or that they can't afford them, but in one sense, it's a measure of a person to gauge how they think animals should be treated. In fact, a few people from my high school, who I know voted for Trump, are huge animal lovers, one of them even devotes hours a week to a shelter. I know this is the kind of information that might have swayed them, but like every positive thing about Hillary, it seemed to be kept carefully out of sight.

Street closures to restrict foot traffic while still allowing people to access homes and businesses requires a lot of security officers to screen people.

Congested urban areas are expensive and difficult, and far removed from the areas where people voted for Trump.
