Trump 'to announce US embassy will move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Monday'

Source: The Independent

The White House will on Monday announce that the US embassy in Israel is to move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, according to unconfirmed reports by an Israeli news outlet.

Channel 2 cited an anonymous source as saying a member of the Trump administration would announce the highly controversial move on the President’s first full working day in office.

The news channel said they had received no confirmation of the claim and there has been no public statement on the move since Friday's inauguration of the new US President.

Relocating the US embassy to Jerusalem would represent a major break with US policy.

Likely very gladly, as you say, in spite of being a fundamentalist Christian himself, perhaps the first time with a little shudder at the thought.

I didn't remember this until Trump decided to turn Jerusalem into a yoooge trumpster fire and someone pointed it out, but in 1995 the Christian right got a law passed to move the embassy to Jerusalem, no later than early 1999, but presidents were allowed to delay the move for 6 months if there were security issues. Of course, there always were "security issues" to this militant Christian wet dream, so they've been delaying this mandated move in 6-month bumps for over 17 years.

Does anyone know who put this particular bee in Trump's ear? Perhaps it would be appropriate to become sick from worry now that Trump might be doing this to provoke an excuse to use nukes over there--instead of waiting to suddenly learn we've murdered entire cities and will become an international pariah.

Steve Bannon, who's not just trying to mastermind an international replacement of liberalism with white nationalism, but who intends to destroy secularism in government. Alex Jones, who reportedly Trump listens to a lot, is also a deviant Christian at war with established religion but very much planning on a religious ascendancy. Other religious extremists who share Christian reconstructionist and dominionist and similar views are in that group jostling for power around Trump.

But this is all such vague information when it seems scary-likely that what is happening is part of a plot.

Israel can name whatever it wants as its capital. It doesn't mean Israel has the right to force or bully other countries into violating international law and setting up embassies in a city that's divided and where changes to the status of the city is a big no-no until the conflict is resolved. If Trump and his gang of slack-jawed morons want to spend a zillion dollars and move the US embassy to Jerusalem, then I can't think of a better way for the US to proclaim to the world that them and Israel are totally up each others arses and they can join in a chorus of calling the Palestinians whinyarses, occupiers, bullies, etc. The rest of the world will just sit back and watch with disbelief when both the US and Israel do the next heartfelt announcement that all they want is peace and they're doing all they can to support a Palestinian state but those pesky Palestinians just keep putting up blockers....

However, Palestinian violence in response to the move, particularly under an unsympathetic, pro-Israel, anti-UN and generally isolationist Trump administration, would be, at best, ill advised. Actual attacks against American targets would be even worse.

A largely forgotten landmark 2013 French court ruling has received renewed attention this week following the international diplomatic summit held in Paris last Sunday at which Israeli settlements were portrayed as illegal.

In an editorial published on Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal wrote, “The conference was a failure, but the conferees could have helped themselves by first checking what French courts have to say about those settlements before scoring Israel again…In 2013 the French Court of Appeals in Versailles ruled that, contrary to Palestinian arguments, Jewish settlements don’t violate the Geneva Conventions’ prohibition against an occupying power transferring ‘its civilian population into the territory it occupies.’ The law, the court held, bars government efforts to transfer populations. But it doesn’t bar private individuals settling in the disputed territories.”

A real court decision, not just some so called international law expert's opinion.

But I don't read french.

From tich's link:

In its ruling, the court states that “France Palestine” was not allowed to bring an action for challenging the breach of the international rule in the case.

In addition the Court determined that Alstom, Alstom Transport SA and Veolia Transport was not responsible for breach of international rules, including human international rules or UN Global Compact, whilst performing their contract for the construction of the tramway of Jerusalem.

So the court is saying that building those transports in the WB does not violate international rules or UN global compact.

Can the US afford to go it alone and engage in another costly, insane war in the ME, especially over something so patently avoidable. Its a thoughtless decision, and outrageously offensive and insulting well beyond the counties and people of the ME, as well as clearly detrimental to our national security interests. We would never recover from such a foolish act, and whatever clout the US has would evaporate in under the withering condemnation of world leaders who will excoriate us because of Trump's stupidly, shortsighted and deliberate provocation.

It's a unilateral action, that's true but so was the PAs successful attempts to gain observer status and recognition from various UN agencies outside of the "peace process". The US asked them not to but they didn't care.
