Trump to company executives: We think we can cut regulations by 75 percent

Source: Reuters

23 JAN 2017 AT 09:39 ET

U.S. President Donald Trump told leaders of companies ranging from defense manufacturer Lockheed Martin Corp to sportswear apparel maker Under Armour Inc on Monday that he believed his administration could cut U.S. regulations governing companies by 75 percent or more.

In a meeting with about 10 senior executives at the White House, Trump also reiterated his pledge to impose a hefty border tax on companies that want to import products to the United States after moving American manufacturing facilities abroad. But, he added, those that want to set up factories in the United States will see quick approvals to build.

They really think that just because Trump said that he would bring the coal jobs
back that those jobs are going to come back. Although, in reality the electric
power plants have all switched over to natural gas because it is cheaper, much
easier to use, and cleaner. And good luck to those miners getting their needed
health care w/the repeal of the A.C.A..

Butr living in OH and having spent much time in Appalachia they will be sold that it
is the liberal environmentalists and democrats fault that they are in a world of shit.
Their pastors also sell hate and lies to the miners and their families too.

"Made in Mexico/Fabriqué au Mexique"

I have a lot of Under Armour stuff. I buy it all at yard sales and thrift stores. It costs way too much new. Look, people, they don't have a patent on elasticized polyester fabric.

There was a reason behind every regulation. It may not have been a great reason,
or it may not apply quite as much as it once did, but it took DECADES to evolve
and for Congress and the Executive to put them into law and regulation.

Meanwhile, has he alleviated the Federal Tax Code? It's so long you can hardly
read it in your lifetime.

Three things:
1: Regulations are not all the same, they are not the sort of thing that you could say you will cut by a certain percentage. Saying you want to cut them "by 75 percent" shows that he either doesn't understand them or doesn't care t.
2: How could someone say they want to cut a large number of regulations? You need to know what those regulations are before you cut them, unless he really does intend to remove them blindly (hello mercury in baby food!).
3: Regulation are (usually) put in place for good reasons, such as requiring hand rails on stairs. We had regulations for the prevention of recessions which worked very well. When they were removed we had a recession.

I was having a "discussion" with a Trump supporter last week or the week before, and they were going on about how he was going to cut back on business stifling regulations. I asked for specifics on what regulations are in need of being cut back. This person couldn't give a single example of what they think should be changed. I'm going to guess it's because Trump doesn't even know and he just gives vague statements that they all eat up.

Remembering the "forgotten" little guy.

All he has to do, apparently, is use a bunch of populist rhetoric but screw everyone but the rich.

What's more "elite" than making every decision based on what's pleasing to the rich?
