Democratic Senators To Propose $1 Trillion Infrastructure Plan

Source: Talkingpointsmemo.com

Senate Democrats plan to introduce a $1 trillion infrastructure plan on Tuesday and call on President Donald Trump to back the proposal, according to reports in the New York Times and the Washington Post.

The plan will rely directly on federal funding to back projects like rebuilding roads and bridges, expanding the country's broadband network, and supporting veterans hospitals and schools, according to the Washington Post. The funding model proposed by Democrats differs from funding proposed by Trump in the past — his campaign proposed using tax credits and working with private contractors.

and privatization of whatever they build or refurbish - so, instead of the Newark Liberty International Airport, it will be the Boeing Newark Liberty International Airport and Boeing will now own it, and charge carriers that use non Boeing aircraft extra money. Interstate 95 will now be ExxonMobil-Wal-Mart interstate Highway, and all rest stops from Maine to Miami will feature only ExxonMobil gas stations and Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets for food/convenience items. Sure, the tolls will quadruple and gas will be 50% higher than a mile off the highway. Oh, and sure the new cost-saving asphalt they used to patch the highway causes respiratory problems for children and seniors and damages tires, but at least the government won't be involved with all their regulating and shit!

Oh, and don't forget privatized waterways and reservoirs, sponsored by Aquifina or Dasani...

Trump campaigned on $1 Trillion for infrastructure but didn't have time for any details like how to pay for it or what to build where.

A wall along the US border counts as infrastructure, and you can get...oh, maybe a third of the way across Texas...for a trillion dollars. Trump KNOWS the Mexicans aren't going to give him any money for the wall they didn't ask for and don't want. If you dreamt for a second the Trump Administration was planning to do anything to improve the country, please wake up.

and fix the roads we have instead of more new roads by shoddy private contractors

If the Dems don't propose this now, their ideas will be drowned out

Amount seems excessive to me

it's probably 1/3 to 1/4 of what is really needed to get the US ready for the remainder of the 21st century - highways, bridges, local roads, the electrical grid, reservoirs, rivers, sewage, airports, schools, railways, broadband services, dams, levees, government buildings, nuclear power plants, converting to green energy etc.

Back when they enacted the stimulus in 2009, most economists said it was several orders too small to really do the job, and said that we really needed $2 to $3 trillion at the time, and now our infrastructure is another 8 years older with only modest improvements from the 2009 stimulus

Trump ran on this 1T infrastructure spending plan and plenty of people voted for him because of the construction jobs that would bring to the HS-educated white working class.

Dems are on it with a proposal. It puts Republicans in a box. Either they support Trump or they don't. When the GOP proposal comes out with all the public-private partnership bs, Dems can point to real instances of public-private projects and privatized public services that are proven taxpayer rip-offs. They can continue to hit Rs with a 2x4 over that for as long as it takes.

Drumpf will not support this, not at all. It doesn't do anything to make his rich pals richer so therefore is a total non-starter. He doesn't want to make anything better, despite the lying mantra. he just wants to rip off America as well as get the goods he's been promised by Russia once the sanctions are removed. That's why he's watching tv all the time, he's not interested in governing, just the stealing and cheating part.

If Trump and his allies reject this plan, then Dems can spend their time pointing out how his plan just enriches the rich and stiffs taxpayers.
